  1. A space suit and ask NASA if I could borrow a space shuttle..."Hey!  I will have it back in about 98 minutes."

  2. Back about 1957 an Englishman called Tom Houston set out from London with 5 pounds and the clothes he stood up in, maybe a small suitcase too.  He traveled right around the world and wrote a book about it. The trip was inspired by a remark of the Duke of Edinburgh's.

The book was called "The Five Pound Look" and came out in 1960.  You can bet he never rode a plane on the trip.

What you need - Passports, visas, money.  If you have prescription drugs you must have up to date prescriptions nominating them.  Some drugs such as codeine are legal in some countries but not in others. Take no chances, sniffer dogs WILL find them.  If you want to take codeine with you get a prescription.

Get immunised against various diseases. Your medico will know which ones.  Some countries may not let you in unless you are immunised against some diseases, specially tuberculosis.

Take ten clothes pins and a few spare buttons with needle and thread.

If you are American, remember that virtually all countries outside the USA use 220 to 260 volts AC power and if you plug in a US appliance it will burn out straight away. A dual voltage shaver with an adapter plug is OK but most things that use more power than that are not dual voltage.  Mobile /cellular / laptop chargers are often all-voltage but the SIM cards may not work in another country.  Check with your phone supplier.

Your battery operated AM FM radio will work anywhere.  CDs will probably work, DVDs probably will not.

Do not carry raw food, confectionery is OK.  Timber products, plants and seeds can be a problem in some countries. These will be taken off you in Australia and probably New Zealand as many plant and animal diseases of the Northern Hemisphere do not exist in those countries and they do not want them thank you very much.

Don't try to take knives, nail files, perfumes or any kind of cosmetic gel on an airliner.  They will throw you off and you might end up in jail.

Absolute minimum cabin baggage, maybe a change of underwear, socks and shirt.  (I once grinned as I watched two short fat women trying to stuff pillows into the overhead lockers.)

  3. a plane ticket, a toothbrush and some clean underwear.

  4. a lot of money! Also a private jet would be helpful :D

  5. I don't know if this is an Astronomy question-- but about $4000 and two suit cases should work--

  6. pants!

    :D

  7. An around the world ticket.

  8. Nowadays you need the luck not to get arrested or killed as there are so many wars and there is so much anarchy in many countries that you would probably not make it.

  9. ONE WAY TICKET?
