  1. A technical sales associate is typically the person involved in the sales process who understands the product. (In some cases, though, employers just call salespeople that to make them sound more knowledgeable.) So, really the only pre-requisite is understanding the product thoroughly. Depending on the nature of the product, that might or might not actually involve any education. As far as pay range, it depends on the nature of the product (if you are the technical sales consultant who knows every square inch of modern aircraft, you'll make a lot more than if you're in the same role for aluminum siding). It also depends on how responsible you for actually closing sales and whether you therefore receive a commission, in which case your pay depends on how good you are at closing lots of big sales.
