I was wondering if you need any qualifications in order to sell car insurance (like in Allstate, SafeAuto etc etc). I just noticed that my agent had some sort of diplome and that sparked my curiosity lol.

  1. Agents need to be licensed in the state in which they sell insurance.  The have to pass a test to gain a license.  Beyond that, insurance agents come from all walks of life; some with advanced educations and some not.  Also, many agents take insurance industry courses to get certified as a CLU (certified life underwriter), CPCU (certified property and casualty underwriter) just to name a couple.  You could be looking at his state license, a copy of some degree or the professional certifications he earned.

    I've had good results here...

    Good Luck.

  2. Yes - you have to have your P&C license in every state you sell insurance in.  I had mine for a while in many states.  Once you get it in the state you live in, it's only a matter of paperwork to get it for the other states.  I thought the exam wasn't too bad, but I know many people fail it.  It is definitely something you have to study for.

  3. I used to sell auto & home insurance & first I got the job then the agency sent me to classes for property & casualty insurance (P & C) Ithen took a test & got my lisence. Your agent might have some other kinds of things so they can show they took advanced courses. I'm sure if you are interested you can just ask you agent. You have to like to talk to people to be good in sales so I don't think they would mind.
