I want to change my son's name before he gets too old to remember, but I don't know what to do. If his father isn't on the birth certificate but he has visitation and pays child support, do I need his permission? Where do I go? How much should it cost?

  1. Get in touch with your State.  Here is the web site.  You put in the two letters associated with your state & PRESTO, you will be at your state's site:

    Ex:

    Indiana> http://www.state.in.us/

    Maine> http://www.state.me.us/

    Idaho>  http://www.state.id.us/

On that site, your should be able to find phone #s.  Okee-doke?

In my state, the cost is around $60.

And as for "do I need his permission?" that is a Q you can ask the appropriate ppl at the state office.
