I am living in Canada at the moment and I want to drive back to the US for vacation. I am a US citizen. I just want to know what identification or anything else I would need to get across there and back.

  1. Well when my dad had to go across the border to the U.S all he needed was a passport.

  2. Okay here is the truth (some people are close but not dead on)

    1. You will need government issued photo ID

    2. your birth certificate

    3. if you are working in canada, bring your green card, you won't need it to enter the states (since you are a citizen) but you will need it to get back into Canada if you wish to return.

    4.  A passport would be easiest but you will still need your greencard to re-enter canada.

    5. the passport law begins in June 2009, and even then a green card would still be required in your situation.

    Good luck and have fun

  3. Just bring a photo ID and your birth certificate and you will be fine. If you were flying, you would need a passport (Since SEP-2007) but if you are driving across, you will not need a passport until June 2009, unless they push the due date later again.

Of course, if you have the opportunity now, I would recommend applying for the passport. It will make it easier for you in the long run. Why wait until the last minute?

  4. A US passport.

  5. Green card, passport

  6. right now as a us citizen you will need your original birth certificate and a valid id card with your picture on it i believe by next January 2009 you will need a valid pass port or if just driving  a passport card but even today if you are flying into Canada or Mexico you need a valid passport
