  1. Comfy clothes for yourself, Shampoo, Conditioner, Brush, Money, Sandals for the shower, Stuff to read, Babys outfit, Binky, Blanket, diapers, wipes, that's pretty much it. Some hospitals also supply some of these things, but don't take your chances! You really don't need much though.

  2. I wore a hospital gown during labor and delivery (to keep my own clothes from getting ruined) but was glad to have warm socks and slippers, a hair tie, toothbrush, shower essentials, a nursing bra, comfortable clothes to wear home (knowing that I would still look and feel about 6 months pregnant and I would need to bring maternity stuff) my own pillow, and a blanket and adorable outfits for the baby (especially what you want her to be photographed in)  We brought our ipod for music but I wanted it turned off early in the labor but we were happy to have our cell phone chargers to send out the good news.  Oh!  And of course a camera!

  3. I packed a whole bag and everything and ended up not using anything I brought with me, not even my daughters take home outfit.

But my hospital and doctors sucked, so I just wanted to get out of there ASAP.

Take a change of cloths, some pads, and a pillow for the ride home.

    That's all you really need.

  4. Here is the list that a friend gave me:

    For Mom:

-Nursing Gowns/T-shirts. A comfortable cotton T-shirt is probably the most practical option for labor itself, but after the birth you will need front-opening nightshirts or nursing gowns.  This does not apply if you plan on using the hospital provided gowns.

-Feeding/Sleep Bras - When you are fitted for feeding bras make sure you can open them easily with one hand.  Your b*****s are going to feel very heavy and you may find you even want to sleep in your bra to give yourself extra support.  Sleep bras may be the best alternative until breastfeeding is established.

-Breast Pads – Essential if you plan on nursing.

-Nipple Cream – Essential if you plan on nursing.

-Underwear – The use of disposable panties or panties you do not mind throwing away for the first few days will be of great use.

-Sanitary Pads - Maternity pads are rather brick-like, top absorbency night-time sanitary pads do the job just as well and usually fit better.

-Slippers/No-slip Socks – Essential for walking around the hospital halls.

-Robe - You won’t need a thick one in hospital as the rooms are usually warm but you may feel more comfortable receiving guests with an extra layer on.

-Toiletries – Shampoo, deodorant, body wash/bar soap, loofah, comb, hairbrush, hair dryer, hair styling items, toothbrush and paste, mouthwash, lotion, tissues, a small mirror, make-up, q-tips, floss, contact solution, and moisturizer. Avoid strongly scented products but treat yourself to some nice toiletries for your stay.

-Hair-band / Hair-clip- To keep you hair out of your face, when you need to concentrate.

-Lip-balm - You’ll be breathing through your mouth which will cause your lips to become dry.  Lip balm is an essential.

-Plastic bags – These come in handy to place in your dirty clothing.

-Going home clothes – You will find you still need to wear maternity clothes for a while after the birth, so don’t pack your pre-pregnancy jeans.  You won’t be in need of them yet!  Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended!  Pack comfortable shoes as well.

    For Dad:

-Clothing – A couple of extra change of clothes will be needed during the stay.

-Toiletries – Shampoo, deodorant, body wash/bar soap, loofah, comb/hairbrush, toothbrush and paste, q-tips, and floss.

    For Baby:

-Clothing – The hospital usually provides t-shirts and diapers for baby during the hospital stay.  If you prefer your own clothing on the baby, prepare for 2 – 3 nights with extra clothing as needed for spit up or diaper leaks.  Otherwise, the only clothing items needed for baby would be a going home outfit.  You may also find a hat, no-scratch mitts, socks/booties and a blanket will come in handy.
