I am interested in working at maybe a daycare/learning center. I would really LOVE to be a preschool teacher or even an assistant just to help watch the kids. What is required for this? Do you have to go thru as much schooling to become a preschool teacher?

Thanks=]

  1. It depends on what state you live in because each state has different regulations.  In the state of Michigan a lead caregiver or teacher has to have at least 6 credits in early childhood... now each individual center may require more than that.  An aid does not need any school credits, but has to have 12 training hours in early childhood, CPR, First aid, blood bourne pathogen training, but usually each center will provide all of that.  The pay is not that great for either, but if it something that you like, then that doesn't always matter!

  2. If you want to start your own daycare, you need to be licensed with the state.  There are rules like your can only have so many kids at a time.  Most preschools/daycares require you to get a background check.  It's fairly expensive if I remember correctly.  I doubt you have to have special schooling for that type of job, but some classes like child psychology do help.
