"I love you just like a brother".  "I only want to be friends".  Do you think you are the first girl to tell him that?  No, he has heard it over and over.  He doesn't hear what you are saying.  He is hearing, in his mind, "Why would anyone want to go out with you?".  Been there.

the first thing i notice is if there would be a gap developing between us. of course at first when a guy likes you, he's all over you. so i watch out and take note if after i said that i only want to be friends is if a gap comes between us. and they also avoid you as much as possible, sometimes forget you even. the way they talk to you is different, too.
