know I can respect his wishes! The question is...Will you?!

MONROE, Michigan (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

Sen. Barack Obama campaigns in Monroe, Michigan, on Monday.

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Obama said reporters should "back off these kinds of stories" and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.

"How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits."

Bristol Palin, a senior in high school, is about five months pregnant, according to an aide to Sen. John McCain who asked not to be named.

The aide said the Palins and the McCain campaign decided to reveal the information now because of rampant Internet rumors that Sarah Palin's 4-month-old baby, who has Down syndrome, was actually Bristol's.

Obama became annoyed when asked about a Reuters news service report that quoted an unnamed senior McCain aide saying that Obama's name appears in liberal blogs speculating about Trig's parentage "in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change.' " Watch analysts weigh in on the Palins' announcement »

"I am offended by that statement," the Illinois senator retorted, not letting the reporter finish his question. "There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us.

"We don't go after people's families; we don't get them involved in the politics. It's not appropriate, and it's not relevant," he added. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I ever thought that there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they'd be fired."

  1. I find it to be so funny how McCain supporters NOW want to listen to Sen. Obama...

Did any McCain supporters respect his wishes when Sen. Obama told the media that his wife is off limits? I think not. Many said he was being overly-sensitive, correct me if I am wrong.

  2. Obama is self made, smart, funny, and what do ya know... he obviouisly has a pretty big heart.  For once someone put politics aside for a split second and said something very rational that I'm sure made a lot of sense for those Americans who took the time to listen.

  3. I definitely will. He makes good honest points and I am glad that a politician isn't going to mudsling on an unimportant issue. Props to Obama.

  4. I think that is the correct position for Obama and his campaign.

However, I don't let anyone tell me what I can and can't question.  I will question everything I see...so no...this isn't off limits to me.  I am not affiliated with his campaign...so I am in the clear.  I see it as our job to question everything and expose anything shady going on.

    So good try...but no...we won't stop.

  5. Yeah, tough luck.  We can talk about Palin's hypocrisy all we want.

  6. Sure.

    Will McCain?

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?

Because her father is Janet Reno."

    John McCain

  7. I commend you! You are one of the few who will. Most will just ignore him and keep it going, not realizing that they are actually hurting him instead of helping him.

  8. the only good thing obama has ever said. i sincerely respect him for that.

  9. Its things like this that let you know only a few people can actually ruun for president.......cause the average person would or is making this into a political issue. Obama is showing what a repectable person he is, that is why I can't understand why people disrespect him simply becuase he doesn't have a lot of experience

  10. it just proves he's a better man than mccain.

boy, you guys can dish it out, but you surely can't take it.

  11. I was actually beside myself for a second when I saw Mr. Obama make that comment on TV.  For once I agreed with Obama.  However, he is still not getting my vote.

Obama is right, this contest is not about families.  It's about political ideals and ideologies.  And on those, Obama and I are night and day.

Let's keep it clean and about the issues.

  12. I'm not surprised that he is urging his supporters to do the right thing.  He has class.

Too bad the Republicans only agreed with that message AFTER the VP pick made a spectacle of  herself.

  13. Well, I am not a Obama supporter, however, my take on this is I commend Barack Obama for making his thoughts known about the scandal that his supporters have brought up to abruptly and disgustingly discuss amongst themselves!!! If Sarah Palin was still the Governor of Alaska, in her town, do you think she will be facing such ugliness in her life, and her daugher's life right now? I hope not, I think not. Which means that because she is now the running mate of John McCain, and future Vice President of the United States of America, a position that their candidate Hillary should have had, if Barack hadn't taken it away from her, is the main reason why she is being attacked in such a vicious way....!!!!

If you can visualize a hound of wolves, attacking a fawn, for being in their territory, then you can see why Britol Palin is being attacked. It is a gutless, ruthless, unremorseful act on the democrats part, for taking it all of their frustrations on Sarah and Bristol Palin. And, the fact remains, there is nothing that we can do, but sit back and stay away from the nasty questions and answers that are being said right now, as I write this. Because if I choose to jump in that ring of hungry hound of wolves, to help them, they will chew me up and spit me out! The best thing to do is ignore them! They will all go away, or maybe they will eat one another up and that will be the end of them!!! This and what is happening at the Republican convention, all the rioting and protesting outside is a total disgust of human nature! It is amazing to me how people can flip out when they resist the facts and truth about what is good about our nation and/or for our nation. It's appalling to see people in violence opposing what is good for our country! The animal instincts kicks in, and they all turn into some kind of werewolf!

I would not be an honest Republican if I didn't say that no matter how this will all pan out in the end, I know that John McCain and Sarah Palin will be our next President and Vice President. We can count on them to be as diplomatic about this as I will be! God bless America!

    Peace...I'm out of here!!!

  14. I can respect his wishes, because I respect him. But it is just difficult seeing as to how this is a delicious story about Palin and I have zero respect for her.
