  1. After defeating Canas in the 2nd round in Rome, Federer announced to the media that he was "back on track" "in his stride & playing well" after his bout with mono that no one ever heard about until he suffered a loss. Word to the wise: declarations are never a good idea. They have a tendency to come back and haunt you. If the day comes that Federer defeats Nadal at Roland Garros or at any other clay court championship other than Hamburg 2007, it's best to play your cards close to the vest.

  2. Nothing wrong with what he said because Federer does have the game to beat Rafa on clay, he proved it last year at Hamburg when he beat him. I don't get why people are jumping all over that statement, what is Roger supposed to say he completely sucks, he'll never win the French, and on clay he's Rafa's b**ch?! Roger believes in himself enough to show everyone that he's capable of beating Rafa on the surface he's especially unstoppable on. I personally believe also that Fed is taking the French this year because he has the game, the reasons and the motivation to do it. GO FED!

  3. He said the same things last year.  He definitely has a good clay-court game, but I don't think he has what it takes to win the French.  If Nadal doesn't win it this year, I think Djokovic with stronger chances since he already won a Master's title on clay this season in Rome.

  4. If anyone is going to beat Nadal at the French, it's going to be Federer.

  5. yes , I agree .Fed could beat Nadal on any surface even if it is Nadal's caly court  which is the best 4 him, we all know that deep inside , even Fed he knew that, but he always trying to believe in that , when he played Nadal on the clay court. I do not blame Fed actually , c'mon he is playing Nadal ( best clay man ever ).

  6. I don't know what's this new thing people have started about fed being a nice guy when he's playing Rafa.

    2006 French Open final, set 1: 6-1

    2006 Wimbledon final, set 1: 6-0

    2007 Hamburg final, set 2: 6-2, set 3: 6-0

doesn't look like a very nice guy to me there. The only nice person was Rafa who blew away his chance to win set 2 at wimby 06 and then blew away his chance to win wimby 07 by s******g up the 5th set.

It's not like Roger was leading 5-1 at Hamburg recently and then suddenly decided to become nice and let Rafa win it. It was just Rafa's brilliance that he can manage to come back like the way he did. And he did trim the # of breaks to 1 before asking for medical timeout.

  7. There's 2 clay games Roger should have won (word on the tour), the Rome game, which was absolutely incredible -2006, and this years Hamburg game. Roger could have closed those out and should have. He MUST get himself to be more agressive.  I hope he learned a lesson. No more Mr. Nice-guy to Rafa. He likes Rafa a lot and does not always play as agressive as he should.

Either way, it should be very interesting. I hope Roger does win the French, and I hope he wins it against Rafa. It will be quite an exciting match either way!!

  8. yes i agree that Roger MIGHT have a chance at Nadal on Clay ( be it RG or not )...but it is all abt executing it...we all see him playing well in the start of his matches against Nadal but then Rafa just climbs all over him...why is this..?...if u can answer this to urself then probably u can have an answer to ur question...

Roger is just getting over-confident...and believe me...this over-confidence is the only thing that separates him from Rafa on clay...

  9. Roger should have hired Higueras earlier. Roche was the worst coach! Anyhow, its normal to say what he did. He does have what it takes to defeat Nadal on clay, as he already did it.   So, he just has to beat Nadal on clay AGAIN.  Can he do it? hmm. tough.

  10. R-Fed's comments don't surprise me at all - particularly as more and more tennis pundits are talking about his "decline." There is no doubt that his inability thus far to win the French is really getting to him - his recent hiring of Higueras is a pretty strong confirmation of that.

  11. Firstly, these comments are perfectly sportsman-like and not unexpected. Think of it as two boxers talking up a main event to increase interest and buzz.

Anyway, I think Roger's about to show a side of his we have not yet seen. Many great players hit a wall in their careers, and I think Roger has just hit his about a year ago. I think he is slowly coming out of his former shadow and is slowly becoming the champion that we have all expected him to be.

Bottom line: expect to see a whole new streak, a bunch more records shattered.

On a side note, I am not sure how much longer Nadal's level of intensity will be sustainable considering how hard he has to work-out and how physically demanding his game style is. He is already plagued with injuries (the knees, lower back, soles of his feet) and I certainly hope that he can overcome these injuries and start playing healthy again, but...

  12. I feel Roger has taken a few aspects off his game. He is mixing it well, but somehow he's lost a bit of the edge he's had on his shots, and more importantly, as evidenced by the most recent matches, it seems his mental state is not up to par.

I fully think Federer has a chance of beating Nadal, especially if he trains specially to adapt to the high bouncing shots on clay from Nadal, and this was evidenced in both his starts on Monte Carlo and Hamburg, but he has to believe in himself to get through the sets.

I'm crossing my fingers for Roger to complete the career slam, but I'm not going to bring my hopes up until it's match point.

  13. I just want to say that I totally agree with what tennis is the best said.

  14. Yes me too i agree but its very difficult to defeat Nadal in clay so if i were Federer i start training right now but in the other side he is the number 1 and that is very important so i think Federer is going to give the  surprise against Nadal but i want Wawrinka or Tsonga to win Roland Garros.

  15. I think Roger Federer has to say something like that lol He has to be optimistic and say he can beat Nadal this year. For the last 3years in interviews leading up to Roland Garros Roger says the exact same thing lol ``this is my year to win the french`` ``rafa will be under to much pressure he wont be able to handle it`` Well Nadal has proven to everyone who has doubted him and Roger that he can keep winning at the French. Roger didnt think he could win it last year to make it 3 in a row....but look what happened Rafa prevailed in 4sets. Maybe this year assuming Rafa/Roger make the final the fedster could maybe finally push rafa to 5 sets here but other than that i see Nadal winning his 4th title here :)

    Vamos Rafa x*x
