My prediction is everything now that is used to run of of fuel like farm tractors, our vehicles and such, will be converted to use a nuclear energy to run. Just like were gonna have to do for our power source. But we need to advance on this technology now! Because we rely on the fossil to do so many things. We would not be able to get anything done without it, or after its gone. Think about it. Everything relies on it some how or is directly made from it. No more bagbomb or Carmex or the plastic it came in.

  1. Automobiles etc will most likely be biodiesel, hydrogen or electric. Nuclear has serious problems at the small scale that would be required for transport. Air travel will be the most technically challenging but transpostation is not the only issue and neither is plastics. A great deal of fertilizer production is dependent on crude oil as are many modern drugs.

The optimistic views of some people that Peak Oil is an "urban myth" and that we will not run out "in the next 500 years" simply isn't supported by the evidence. The size of the Brazilian discovery has yet to be officially announced and in any event, despite what ABC may say, it will not be the 3rd largest reserve in the World. There are at least 5 bigger fields Worldwide and note that it is not the 3rd largest field discovered as one contributor stated it is nearer to being the 10th largest. Even if it is proven to be 33 billion barrels then at the rate of consumption estimated for 2030 it will all be gone in 280 days!!

  2. If we run out of oil or liquified coal within the next 500-800 years, it will be due to the actions of politicians, not a lack of stuff in the ground.

  3. Contrary to urban myths, we won't run out anytime soon (meaning in the next 500 years).

For example the third largest oil deposit discovery in history was just found off the coast of Brazil.  Combined with Brazil's other oil resources, they will soon rival Russia.

There is more oil yet to be discovered then has already been discovered.

  4. There's enough oil in the ground in the United States for us to become energy independent.  The problem is, the EPA won't let anyone drill for it.  But they let other nations do.  They didn't want drilling in Alaska, but a British firm does.  No one wants new oil refineries built so the rapidly aging ones have to carry the load.  Soon there will be shortages, but only because there's too much demand and not enough resources to process oil into gasoline.

Nuclear power is the way to go for our electrical needs.  But we need to get over the fears and myths about nuclear energy.  Recycle the spent fuel rods instead of the stupid government mandate that we bury them in deep concrete pits.  No.  Reuse them like other countries do.  Three Mile Island happened thirty years ago folks, it's time to advance and move on.

  5. I will not be here.  In Colorado and Utah there is over a 500 year supply of oil.  Colorado and Utah have more oil than all OPEC countries have combined and 80% of this oil in on government ground.

  6. Well in my opinion, tractors and large trucks are already running on diesel, so it would make sense for them to simply switch to biodiesel as few to no modifications to the engines are required.

As far as commercial electricity, I think we will see a mix of solar, nuclear, wind and (i hate it) coal.

We have pretty much depleted half of the earths oil deposits and that is coming from a top petroleum engineer so I take his word.

We are in peak oil right now, so its best if we figure out a way to gradually ween ourselves from oil.
