What do you plan to do with you dress after the wedding?

Most people don't think about this but, I've thought a lot about what I want to do with my dress after the wedding. I don't want to keep it around for year on end and it turn yellow like my mom's did (and she had it preserved buy a reputable business). I was think of things I could do with it. My first thought was to donate it to Brides for Breast Cancer but my heart is really in the children's cancer foundations. My mom suggested having a quilt made out of where squares of the dress fabric are sown to squares of the table runner fabric. I like this idea but would only use it for fall. What are some other ideas?

  1. I'm hoping to get some crewel done around the neck, somewhat Mexican style. I'm just worried that then I'll end up with a formal dress with informal ornamentation, instead of a wearable dress.

  2. dontation to a needy bride or prom dress

sell it- keep the moeny or dontate it

make something out fo the fabric-I may do that!

  3. I kept mine.   I always thought it was awesome that my grandmother had hers in her cedar chest and could take it out and show it to us growing up or we could play in her wedding dress.

I'm just sentimental and have mine sealed and boxed.  I may take it out when my kids are older.

  4. well i am selling mine

  5. u can turn it into a shirt or skirt

  6. I'm donating mine to either Goodwill or one of the prom dress drives.

  7. I had mine professionally boxed and preserved, but I'm sentimental and it's the only thing I kept from the wedding...

I know you could sell it on-line for a cheap price for people that can't afford the CRAZY prices of gowns.... or you can donate it to the locale thrift shop...Keep it around for a bit until you find out if someone is getting married, then if they want the dress they can have it altered to fit their style or size....

  8. I'm not getting married any time soon (unless my partner has a HUGE surprise in store for me - I highly doubt it :P), but I've often wondered what people do with their wedding dresses post wedding. I must say, I'm incredibly impressed with both of your ideas. To have someone else benefit from your special day is one of the sweetest things I've heard. Good luck to you, you truly deserve a wonderful wedding and life.

  9. Keep it.

  10. I may be donating mine to another bride that I know who's wedding is after mine, or I may have to sell it. I only have a part time job right now and I need the money.

  11. I kept mine stored in a keepsake box. I am planning on either passing it down to my one of my 3 sisters so they can alter it to fit them, OR hand it down to my future daughter if I have one. At most I'd keep it around for five years. If neither one occurs, then I'll put it out on consignment, or sell it on Ebay to get at least some of my money back's worth.

  12. Ask the person who marries you if they know of anyone who is not well off and would be able to use your wedding dress.

My wife's dress is now on its 8th bride.  Our minister has lent it out on numerous occassions.
