What do you prefer for a middle hitter, 51 or 53?

i use to run my offense and i always told my middle to go with a  51. They all agreed

51 is so cool when you are fast 53 when you are not so fast. i try to run a 51 as much as possible but when im late 53

The 51 is the better option from an attacking point of view, simply because it gives the blockers much less time to react.  If you run a 53 the set is higher, giving the opposition more time to form a 2 or even 3 player block (not good!!)

Unless you are playing at a very high standard, a 51 attack is not going to draw any more than 1 blocker.

In addition, by running a 51 attack on every play, whether you get the set or not, you will force the opposing middle blocker to commit to staying with you.  Then, when the set goes to the outside the outside attacker will only have one blocker to beat.

51 just seems so much cooler and more impressive with its fast pace! both are good though.

I love 51. Lots of running up and down though, which lots of middle hitters would hate to do.
