i adopted a female red ear slider that had been chewed on by a dog, on the rear of her shell. she is almost healed, but being in the water all the time it seems to not be healing all the way. i need something that is nontoxic to put on her shell to keep it dry while she is in the water, in order to help her heal better.

  1. it's not going to grow back it's permanent damage.

if it bleeds at all, put some neosporin on it and keep her out of water for 15-20 min, it'll help prevent infection.

  2. aaww poor thing,

I looked a little and couldn't find anything..guess we'll need to think of something hmm.

how about water proof bandaid type things? but I wonder if they'd stick to the shell...

how about a product called "new skin" it's a liquid bandage. (for people)  I don't know how healed the shell is, if I put it on a new cut it has a burning feeling, but if there is no skin showing through the shell that needs to heal I'll bet the liquid bandage would work well.

  3. Minor cracks usually will heal on their own. Adding a little antibiotic to the area prevents infection.  Contact the “www.anapsid.org/societies, for a turtle vet /  rescue in your city and state.

For large cracks, please take the turtle to a turtle vet or someone who rehabilitates them. They can do amazing things these days with shell patches, glues, etc. so that turtles who you would not imagine surviving (normally we are talking about turtles hit by cars) actually do.

Make sure you feed plenty of greens and keep the water clean.

    I wish you luck

  4. My daughter volunteers at a local reptile rescue center and we adopted a tortoise a few years ago that had been abused.  He had some chips taken out of his shell and the owner of the center told us about a product called Vita-Shell.  It's a cream you apply to the shell a couple times a day.  It really worked..his shell became real colorful and the chips almost completely disappeared!!  I highly recommend it to anyone who has a turtle or tortoise with shell problems.  Good luck.

  5. reptile vets have something that works (cant remember what it is) call one and they should be able to tell you
