What do you read in Ninth Grade English?

Question

I'm just starting 9th grade and I want to know what you do mostly in English. Do you read short stories, novels, poetry, or do you mostly write essays? What did you read in English 9 and what should I expect.

For the main novels of 9th grade English, I read

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card

To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee

Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck

Romeo and Juliet - Shakespeare

The Miracle Worker - William Gibson

We also read many short stories from the literature books, did tons of literary analysis essays, did a little bit of poetry, some creative writing, tons of projects and oral presentations, independent reading projects, vocabulary and grammar, and timed writes

it depends if you are in normal english or honors english. You do all of the stuff that you listed, but in honors your mostly independent.

This is what I read in 9th grade English.  I was in honors, so depending on the class you are taking this might be very different.

-My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok

-The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

-Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespear

-Antigone by Sophocles

-Oedipus the King by Sophocles

-Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

A few short stories and a few poems.  We wrote essays for almost every book we read and all of our essays were about books.

we read the pearl, of mice and men, shake spear, to kill a mocking bird.. but you use alot of the text book for short stories and poems to..
