My husband and I are thinking about going to Italy next. Should we just go and do our own think or should we go with a traveling group that takes people to the touristy spots? If you think a group is best, do you know of any companies that do these trips?

  1. I have traveled alot with different companies and solo and I would recommend a small group company for your first time to Europe and Italy is one of my favorite.  I would highly recommend a group called Overseas Adventure Travel.  They have groups of 16-18 people . they take you to all the highlights of the areas and at the same time get you out of the big cities and into great places you would never find on your own. They also don't call it adventure for nothing . almost every trip has at least one optional adventurous  activity. I have done river rafting, bungy jumping, hiking above Machu Pichu, horseback riding, helicopter ride, snorkeling, kayaking, etc included in their trips.  They are almost all inclusive with air fair, hotels, most meals and most side trips included.  The guides are very knowlegable and very flexible they have changed itinerary when the group wants to do something different. I've never been disappointed and they get you to all the tourist spots too. The cost isn't any more than most group travel and I've done globus, cosmos, and a few others that take bigger groups all over Europe.

  2. I woud say to go in a group but you're going with your husband.  Sometimes being on vacation and traveling around creates situations where ppl get pissed off.  You don't want anyone throwing a fit in front of ppl.  Plus Italy is really great and romantic.  You don't want to spoil the special time you have with your husband

  3. Most of the time, I prefer independent travel, but it really depends on your personality. If you go on your own, you have much more flexibility if there's something to see or do that catches your attention at your destination. I've run into some great festivals, exhibits, and scenery that I wouldn't have been able to stop and enjoy if in a group tour. Most of the major tourist destinations have companies that offer day or half day escorted sightseeing targeted at providing an overview of a city or specific historical sites, museums, etc when you want someone to explain what you're seeing. I feel comfortable arranging all my own transportation, meals, and lodging and have been doing it for years. If you would really rather have all that done for you, then a group is better for you.

  4. Globus....

We have been all over Europe with Globus...the tour guides are so helpful and most of the time...very informative.

    I would recommend...your first trip...be with a tour group..it is fun..and you learn so much....then...if you want to go back...make it a romantic get-a-way....

  5. Well it dipends of the kind of trip you want to do.There are a lot of historical places in Italy and for this reason travelling in a group can help.I prefer to discover things by my own.

I recomend Siena and in general Tuscany

  6. small group. I went last year with about 20. it was just the right size and it was so much fun. It will be a great experience whether you go in a group or not, but i always like to have company and share the experience with others.

  7. I would like to suggest that you travel independently. You will hook up with plenty of American tourists and won't feel isolated.

  8. I think you should go alone. I went to Italy for the first time with just some friends and I was so glad that we did our own thing. The groups have timetables, and I called them the shufflers. The tour group guides would hold up an umbrella and then shout out some facts and groups would shuffle to the next thing. Italy is a safe, friendly and easy to get around-in place. You can wander any of the cities without a problem. If you want to hear the tour just step in and listen in, the luxury is ...you get to leave when you want.
