  1. Auckland is like most bigger cities in the world.  Its a smart trendy city.

To a restaurant or bar the dress code is "Smart casual".  No thongs or jandals and definately no socks and sandals. A trendy shirt and trousers or dress jeans is fine.

During the day almost anything goes. We are a very multi-cultural city so you will see all styles on the street.

  2. Footwear.

  3. Dress standards in New Zealand is very similar if not the same as what you would find in any major western city in the world.  - Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles, New York, etc etc

I think you will find that what you wear normally where you live will be fine here too.

it is slowly heading toward summer though so make sure you bring suitable summer clothes.

  4. Depends when you're going or if you're travelling or what.

If you mean, general dress code, NZers are pretty laid back, but do dress up pretty well when going out at night, to clubs etc.

Having said that people go barefoot in supermarkets (and elsewhere) quite often.

You're headed into the spring but it will still be alternating between humid and rainy until you hit Dec/Jan. Can still get cool in Auckland even in the spring. Check temps before you go, and remember they will be in Celsius (eg 25 C is pretty balmy about 80F)
