  1. I let them know that it is a moral issue.  I don't want to play a part in cruelty to animals.  I am proud to be a vegan.  I aso tell them how healthy it is and how great I feel.  Meat eaters can be ignorant about it.  People are ignorant about what they don't understand and aren't informed on.  It bothers my family.  They thought it was just a phase but I have been doing it for three years now so now they know I am serious and have backed off.  Don't let what people say get to you.  I am proud to be a vegan and I don't care what others think.

  2. you could simply say, "because that's what i feel i should be."

  3. I just say "because I don't like the taste of meat." When people ask a question like that, they aren't looking to be preached at, or hear a 10 minute explanation of why your a v/v. If they want to know more about the diet they will ask more questions, most just say cool and change the subject.

BTW: the "I don't like the taste of meat," answer always shuts up anyone looking for a debate. How can you argue against that?" :-)

  4. "I did a lot of research into how animals are treated on factory farms and slaughterhouses, and I decided that I don't want to support it. Also, high cholesterol runs in my family so I'm healthier without meat."

  5. I was wondering why you have to ask around? Why aren't your personal reasons good enough? Unless you doubt yourself, honesty is the best policy.

  6. I don't bring it up unless they ask.  I say I am vegan because I know too much about the meat, milk, and egg industry.

If they push it by asking specific questions I will answer.  I will not push the subject myself though.

If they are rude I will give them specifics.  I will go into the slaughtering processes and other gruesome things.  That doesn't happen hardly ever except for on here.

  7. Ask them why they eat meat?  Quite frankly it's none of their business why.   I'm a meatatarian.  I don't ask why.  I would ask you for any good recipes for main dishes though.

  8. To MOST point of times, i just humbly aswered them...

    " I'M ALLERGY TO MEAT ".

If they keep on insist or provoke me, i answer them this...

    " I'M ALLERGY TO CRUELTY ".

My mobile device is ever-ready with MP4/3GP version of "Meet your Meat"...makes simple the whole conversation!

  9. I dont think Ive been asked why. I think most people assume its because I feel badly for animals that have to die for the meat.

    (and they would be right)

it would either be that, or for health (or both). it seems pretty obvious.

also, I am in my late 30s...older people tend to be more accepting.

  10. It is my way to live my life, just like that!

  11. I say I have no personal convictions, I just want attention.  Plus I love to be difficult.

  12. I've found that there is no proper response to this question. People simply believe it's crazy, and you aren't going to convince them that your way is better 999 times out of 1000. It's best just to keep your cool and not get aggravated with them...show them that you're mature enough to respect others opinions and not worry about theirs even if they're telling you how messed up your diet is. If they realize they can't upset you, they'll probably quit trying and let you and your lack of meat be.

  13. Well if it's someone I know is just waiting to criticize my diet I just tell them I don't care for meat. Otherwise if they seem reasonable I'll tell them that I don't see the point in killing an animal for my meal, and it's a little too close to eating my dog for my liking.

You'll always have people who say that you're crazy and what you're eating is gross but just stick to what you believe, they're the ones who are going to get cancer, not you!

  14. -ridden flesh can rot in my colon is not something that I want.
