  1. I usually say "Lower me" and the belayer says "Lowering".

Once down at the bottom, I say "Belay off?" and he responds "Off belay".

  2. You say "take"

Then your belayer should say "gotcha"

  3. i climbing

  4. "Take"

    or "Comin' down"

As long as you make eye contact with your belayer, it doesn't really matter what you say.

  5. absailing?

  6. Climber: "Ready to come down", "Take", or "Tension" are all acceptible

Belayer: "Gotchya" or "Let go when ready" informs climber that the belayer has taken up all available slack and locked off.

Climber: "On you" indicating to belayer climber has let go and is in position to be lowered.

You should use the same commands indoors as well as outdoors. Repetition of safe practices will keep you safe. That way if something goes wrong everyone will notice immediately.

  7. Top:  On Rappell

    Bottom:  On Belay

Even though you're not technically rappelling, you're being lowered down, it's still the way to go.

  8. It should be common sense for a DECENT belayer as they should be VERY focused on the climber's actions
