What do you say when your on call for work and you call in to see if they need you?

just say your name.. and ask if there is any work for you today.. sometimes they don't know in the mornings they might need to get a hold of you and they can call you up to 3 hours before they 'want you to be there'' if you are on call....then you have to show up and get there...but it's good to phone ever so often and ask if you are needed... that means you have to be available by phone all day long to really find out.. so keep your mobile phone switched on or check messages regularly so you won't miss a call.
