  1. They were very much into quality and exactitude. This is very important for mathematics and ultimately, science. There were other great civilizations that were more into art, for example, but when it comes to tangible results, the greeks were possible the best (not that they didn't produce great works of art).


  2. Many great inventors, controlled a huge amount of land, an extremely powerful military, great government system (probably the most similar of  the ancient ones to America's),free people willing to defend their freedom,technology, and is still a country to this day!
