When I grew up everybody in the Town watched out for the other peoples kids. Mom would always know where I was. I respected my elders. It is not that long ago either. What do you think causes all that misbehaving and mistrust?

  1. NO pride, shame, self-control, dedication, morals, discipline, consequences.

TOO MUCH egocentrism, absent parents, illigitimate kids, apathy, money being worth more than family, promiscuity, welfare programs

  2. I remember those days too, and not that I'm looking at them with rose colored glasses, I'm am looking at those days with my retrospective contacts, and yes I see those as somewhat the "good ol' days". In a way, yes the media does play a part in this due our ability to obtain news quickly and the ability to have this news given to us every hour 24 hours a day.  Now more than ever we get to see, the pedophile, the murderer, the serial rapist, the abusive family member and its making us take a second look at the people and the environment that we live in.  This breeds distrust, and with this distrust comes a suspicion of everybody.  So no longer do we trust "Ms. Betty" the widow up the street because she reminds us of the lady that poisoned her 5 husbands that we saw on the evening news.  Our kids get to see our former Disney starts misbehaving and only receiving a slap on the wrist and they think...wow I can do that too.  (But then again, had we never put them on that pedestal to begin with we wouldn't have the latest breaking news about them almost as much as we see the local weather on the 8's.  There are still plenty of these town that you speak of out here.  They just don't receive much attention, that is until something newsworthy happens.  Its not that our society is deteriorating, its just that out our focus has shifted from it takes a village.

  3. too many stupid people breeding and raising stupid kids.

  4. I think the media has a lot to do with it.  A lot of kids seem to be getting ideas from tv shows & videos instead of their parents or grandparents like people used to. Their young, impressionable minds think they should look & act like celebrities. I'm hoping there are still some individuals out there who aren't influenced by pop culture.

  5. Society is not deteriorating. There have always been good attentive parents and respectful kids.  There have always been neglectful parents and disrespectful kids.  We tend to view the 'good old days' through rose colored glasses ... but neither humans nor society has changed all that much.

  6. The deterioration of society is directly connected to the lack of a father in the home. As the population of single mothers rise so does the rate of crime, drug abuse, teenage abortions, depression, etc.

This really started happening in the 1960's with the introduction of the birth control pill. Women, rather than being liberated, became objectified. We were no longer seen as the mothers of children but here to serve the "needs" of men. Sexual activity became a means of pleasure with whomever you wish rather than marital act of love. This removal of sexuality from within the confines of a marriage has led to a boom in unplanned children. These children grow up in a home that is "dealing with" their existence. They do not have the security of a two parent home and the one parent that is there is stressed out trying to make ends meet. There is no one there to show a boy how he is to treat a lady nor show a girl how she deserves to be treated by a man. It is very sad.
