  1. Start early, start early. If your child can get accepted at age 4.5 or 5, go for it.  This redshirting is a fiction.

  2. My granddaughter is an only child and we started her when she was four as she needed to learn to play with children and not just adults. She will turn 5 in Jan. and we have seen such a differences in her social skills that it is great. I think pre school and kindergarten is to teach them these skills and not  just the ABC's .Every child is different and only a parent really know what they are ready for.

  3. They will never mature enough till like age 12 or 13, serious. So whenever they are about the age or 5-6 they will be more likely to be better when they become older. All kindergarten kids are not mature they just want to have fun, they come home saying how muched they learned, it will make you feel great. trust me 5-6 is a good age :]

  4. 5 is yearly enough . Younger kids need to stay home with their mom . They will be better emotionally for life.

  5. i think early

  6. When they are mature enough...5 is a good age.

  7. Both are equal factors.  Five is an appropriate age, but you have to be sure the child is ready for independence.  You'd be surprised how much a child will blossom and mature during Kindergarten.  Just be sure your child is in a social club/group before Kindergarten so they are used to being around other children.

  8. I don't really see any benefit to starting a kid early.  Even if they are mature enough, or gifted, or whatever.  A child who is "ready" at 4 is getting stimulation in other places - play groups, preschool, mom and dad doing educational activities with them - so there is no need to send them early.  It may be a feather in their parent's cap to say little Sally/Sammy started school at 4, but the child isn't going to get any added benefit.  If you have a child who you are afraid will be too far ahead of the other kids intellectually, starting them one year early isn't going to make any difference.  They will rise ahead of their peers anyway.  If you start them early, they will just have less maturity with which to deal with the boredom/challenges a gifted child can face.

Waiting until the child is 5 or 6 may have great benefits.  Many children have huge growth in social emotional areas from 4-6 years old, and allowing them to go through the growing pains without the added stress/structure of kindergarten will benefit them greatly.  Not to mention the fact that many parents focus on their own child's strength - which may be very advanced for their age - but overlook the weaknesses.  A mathematical genius may need some extra help in socialization, reading, or other areas.  A very socially mature child may not have the analytical maturity necessary to handle more formal schoolwork.

Bottom line - there is no long term benefit to starting a child early; but there may be great long term benefits to hold certain children back.  So why risk the potential benefits for nothing?

  9. It is difficult for children if they start too early.  Even if they are "bright", they may not be socially or emotionally ready to go to school.  Kindergarten is tough, because there is usually only one teacher for 20 kids.  If a child isn't ready to be semi-independent, then they won't be able to handle kindergarten.

  10. I think 4 or 5 is good age to start school, so they can finish their education one year early and kids are not mature until they are 12. In some places kindergarden start with age of 4.

  11. The standard age is 5 yrs of age by sept 1st of the school year.  If you feel that your child may not be ready in time look into 4K programs that focus on school readiness.  They are normally shorter days and concentrate on literacy and daily routines.  This well help the child's transition from home to Kindergarten.  4K programs should be curriculum based not just another daycare.  These programs are growing in popularity across the nation.

  12. children should start kindergarden at age 5 that is when they are emotionaly stable enough to handle the stransition between being with mom and being with other children it is good for them to be around other children most cry the first day it breaks your heart after that they cannot wait till the next day so be prepared mom it is probebly going to be harder on you then on the child.

  13. I started kindergarten 2 months before I turned 5. My parents always wished they had held me back, I do it. My youngest son will tum 5 a week before kindergarten starts, I am going to hold him back. I think it should be up to the parents, some children are ready for kindergarten at 5 some are not.

  14. when they are younger so that they can learn more and start getting used to school.

  15. My daughter started kindergarten five days after she turned 5. She was so emotionally unready that we finally held her back in 3rd grade so that she was with children that were on the same emotional level as her. My son was emotionally ready to start kindergarten when he was 4. All children are different. Some are mature enough while others aren't.

  16. i think when they are mature because they get in tirreble when they young because they like to do very thing

  17. I agree with the majority... it best to wait some kids are ready especially if they've attended preschool for several years.  I would say most kids do much better when they have just alittle more maturity.  Kids in kindergarten are just learning social graces and some may not be so gentle and kind.  Your child needs to be able be emotionally ready for this and a waiting period might not hurt.  I have 2 ... one in kindergarten now and one who was there last year... we waited and they are much better for it.  It's a difficult decision.  My advice is what does your gut tell you>? and do that!   Best Wishes.
