I have heard that you are conscious for up to 15 seconds after your head is chopped off. Do you think your body would be in shock and feel no pain or do you think that the last 15 seconds would be the worst pain of your life????

  1. ummm, i think that is a chicken and not a human....when a human gets guillitened they might feel the nano second that the blade hits there neck but after that they are dead and really dont feel anything...because the brain affects the nerves and when it is severed the body can relay the nerves the be affected.

  2. there's a reason they set the person in the guillotine face down and not face up . when the blade comes down, it should cut the spine which should immediately paralyze the victim and cause him no further pain. a quick and painless death.. though grisly and gruesome ><

  3. Pathways from your body send pain to your brain. As soon as your head is severed from your body ( spinal cord ), you are dead so NO there is no pain.

  4. I doubt that there would be any pain that you would have enough time to describe to a witness. All body functions would shutdown instantly as your head rolled over to the side.

  5. sir francis drake kept talking after his head was chopped off, he wasn't screaming, just talking...so i'm assuming not

  6. you would loose blood pressure and faint in less than a second

  7. well your head is off.. so no signals to your brain

  8. Many have mouthed or blinked for quite some time after their heads were removed from their bodies. One could not speak as the one person wrote, as they'd need air from lungs to make a sound from their mouth. Brains are a central part of your functioning. When you get hurt badly, your mind generally blocks out any and all pain. And consciousness has been documented up to 35 seconds after severing the head from the torso. Which is one reason they chose that it was barbaric and no longer the quick and easy death they once thought it would be.

Not many showed signs of life after the severing though, just a few. The brain fires until the blood finishes draining from it. Natural acts like blinking stem from the brain and not the nervous system or spine as some have written on here. I have to wonder how people make it through the day not understanding the simple parts of the body functions. But i think many people cannot tolerate such thoughts and want the dead to be dead instantly. Rarely does death come immediately with almost any form of killing.

What is interesting is that no body has functioned after the severing, leaving one to realize how the brain runs the body, and not the other way around. though, losing of bowels is normal, it is a lack of control that causes that to happen.

I doubt that no matter how long a head survives without the body, pain is not a factor. Once again, the minds way of saving oneself. I've been injured badly and didn't ever notice for a full minute or two.

Even severely botched beheadings rarely showes signs of severe pain. I can't remember which king it was, but it took more than 17 minutes to get the blade through the neck, the blade had angled and went into the jaw line. Gruesome to say the least.

    Good question though!

  9. its hard to tell.  some people reportedly blink after getting their head cut off which is where the 15 seconds part comes from.  it is unknown if it is because of voluntary action or spasms

  10. Well, that's hard to say, considering that you wouldn't have time to tell the world how much pain your in. I think it would be seering pain in your head for most of that 12 seconds, but i think you might lose consciousness before you actually died. I don't think the pain would be felt in the body because the nerves aren't connected to it anymore. But I think that's hard to judge. I certainly don't want to find out!

  11. Our bodies have a survival mechanism that helps us deal with pain. I don't think it would be the worst pain imaginable.

  12. I think you feel nothing. Your brain and your spinal cord are severed which means you have no feeling. Then again, I've never had my head chopped off so I don't know.
