I work at a library as a shelver. The boss says we have to work for our whole shift except for a 15 min break. After I finish shelving everything, sometimes I shelf read or straighten up but other times I'll sit down & read or get on the computer only getting up to straighten and shelve new stuff. Even tho the manger said that, he doesn't sy anything & I see even my supervisor & him read when it's kind slow but he doesn't even say anything if my co-worker does nothing.

  1. I think if you are worried about getting fired and you think you are going to get fired then you will get fired. Think positive and be the employee that you would keep and even then you might end up being too good for the position and get fired. Do your job, be happy, and stop worrying about being fired or it will come true.

  2. I'm just amazed that you are doing all of this reading because your writing skills leave a little to be desired.  In the end, if you are worried that you might be fired in a position like this, then you are probably in danger.  The hard truth is that you are expendable.  You will have to suck up to your boss until you grow and get a job with a skill set that is hard to replace.  Use the fact that you hate sucking up to your boss as motivation to start "movin' on up!"

  3. How long have you worked for them?  If you're new then you need to do everything you can to show them you're a good employee.  This means try and do something even if you're not busy.  If you can't find anything to do, try and LOOK busy!
