My sister in law (husband's little sister) is getting married tomorrow. I am a bridesmaid and it was left to me to "go buy some flowers with $60" TODAY! HAHAHAHAHAHA - sure. She's perfectly composed and I am trying to keep her special day from falling apart before it begins. (Her parents are ZERO help by the way - I'm it)

I went to 2 supermarkets and 2 florists first thing this morning. I hadn't realized she never bothered to order flowers - it didn't even occur to her. She had assumed she could just go buy white roses, baby's breath and greenery at the last minute.

I managed (on her limited budget) to get her 2 big packages of chrysanthamums (2 colors) and 7 baby white roses - that I have to make into boutonieres. I guess beggers can't be choosers, right? She brought this upon herself. Do you think it will be okay???

  1. That sounds fine and Chrysanthemums are lovely.  What colors did you get?  Baby roses will look really nice for the boutonnières as well.  Kudos to you for taking the time out to try and make something work with nothing (literally).

  2. Considering the circumstances, I think it sounds great! I quite like those flowers anyway and I think you have done REALLY well to get all of those flowers for $60!! Good luck :)

  3. Mums are a beautiful flower.  In fact many fall weddings pick Mums as the flower as they do not wilt quickly, come in many different colors and are beautiful.  If she'd thought about it just a few weeks ago she could have planted sunflowers.  They grow like weeds under almost any condition and they would have worked nicely for her wedding too.

You got 2 packages of mums and only 7 white baby roses.  I don't particularly like baby roses.  I would have instead gotten a dozen white roses and made them into bouts and the maids could each carry a single rose as well.

I think on $60 you did well and you won't hear any complaints.

  4. Well, for a summer wedding, I would have picked something like daisies, mums are more of a fall flower.  But, you are right, beggars can't be choosers, so she will need to be happy with what you bring her.  She obviously wasn't that picky about it or she would have taken care of it in advance.

  5. Sure. Sounds fine to me. I saw an all green spider mum bouquet recently and loved it.

I am using green spider mums and kermit button mums in centerpieces. I am also using kermit button mums in flower girl ball and in my bouquet.

  6. You did great considering the limited budget and the last minute notice. Chrisanthemus wouldn't be my choice either, but heck... she brought it upon herself.

If she whines, tell her that it was either that or a cactus LOL!

    Good luck
