I also have 180 hours PTO a year and total health coverage benefits. I work at a group home for people with developmental disabilities in So. California. I am a 32 year old married female with a Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience in the field. Job is pretty fun and kick back but I've also been smacked and had to clean up some mighty unpleasant messes! The 2 previous years my raises have been 7%, this past week, I got my three year review and got a 4%! Does this sound like good compensation for this type of work? Or am I getting shafted...

  1. holly c**p that is great were do you work that does thAT I WANT IN =0

  2. I think you need to get a raise. My dad has been working at a peanut company for over 20 yeaers about 22 almost and he only gets 10 an hour for half time. His work has 3 shifts though and he takes the second shift.

  3. sounds pretty average, honestly. I have worked in a similar field *nursing home* and got paid about the same amount, had to go through teh same stuff.

I would talk to the Director about your raise. This is definately out of the ord. YOu ought to have had the same level, if not more. Negotiate for a better deal.

  4. you pay is good in Seattle, but in So Cal you do need a little more sometimes to make up for cost differences.

As for the work, it's the job you do, so don't ask for more based on what you have to deal with.  As for the smacked, by a client I hope and not a employee or er.

Around clients you do have to be careful and your job should have a list of clients that do miss behave, so check it and be on top of this and not surprised by it.

good luck, and hold off on asking for more tell after the elections now when the people can see a new direction and feel happy again.

  5. dude im 20 and work for a clothing store in atlanta and make a little bit less than you and dont have a degree. you should be making alot more especially since california has a much higher cost of living than georgia does. they're giving you the stiff 1 eye
