I have been hearing the stories about Mississippi such as it is the poorest, unhealthy state in the nation. Also, it seems that many businesses are moving out of the state. I wondered can the state of Mississippi be improved in the future?

  1. While the amusements you want are nice, I don't think they'll do anything towards reducing teen pregnancy, infant mortality, heart disease, diabetes, obesity or school drop out rates.(All some of worst in the country). Most of these problems are personal choices and no matter how much money the government throws at them, they will not significantly change until people decide to alter their behavior.

We desperately need more employment opportunities but I don't see them coming to my region, the delta, anytime soon.

    I hope I'm wrong.

We have agricultural, sports and science museums now and people don't take advantage of them like they should.

I'd like to see our cigarette tax raised from one of the lowest in the U.S. at $.18/pack to $1.00 or more. Hopefully, that would discourage some from smoking and help pay for the health care of those that continue to do so.

To answer your original question....I think Mississippi will continue down a path of self destruction and remain on the bottom for a long time to come....again, I hope I'm wrong.

  2. Under water....

  3. To me, Mississippi is on a slippery slope toward oblivion.  There seem to be no short term solutions for the plight in which they find themselves.

Long term, the leaders can offer tax incentives, such as higher sales taxes in conjunction with little or no personal income tax, tax shelters for big businesses, dedication of large land masses to alternative energy creation...

There are myriad solutions.  Mississippi must elect the leadership which can start this long term transformation to a state which has some sustainable redeeming value.
