Question

How many points do you think will earn the President's trophy this year? Which team will get it?

I think 104 or 106 points could get you the President's cup and I think that will most likely go to Detroit as much as I hate to say it. But I don't think Detroit will repeat in winning the Stanley Cup.

I believe it will be 108 points by either the Penguins or Sharks.  I do believe detroit will get about 105 points give or take a couple.  I think it will be the sharks, penguins, red wings, and for some reason I think the ducks will be the other team competing down the stretch for it.  Also I believe chicago will be a legitimate playoff team.  Early prediction and no they won't win the division that will belong to detroit but I see a playoff spot 6th, 7th or maybe 8th for the black hawks.  Plus I have a feeling columbus may be very close to making a playoff spot or they will sneak into a final playoff spot.

Seriously, not trying to be an overconfident Wings fan here, but Detroit wins the President's cup with 124 points. (Does sound like a stretch to have that many, though)

They got 115 points last season.

They set an NHL record last season for most points in the first 41 games and in the second half there was a 3 week period where they had Stuart, Kronwall, Rafalski, Lidstrom, AND Chelios all injured at the same time.

5 out of your original 6 starting defensemen and that will crush your game, in addition to Daniel Cleary being out during the same time, whom was on pace for a 25 or so goal season.

If you can take almost a full month of a season where you are absolutely crippled from some injuries and still end the season with 115 points, then during that offseason you lose nobody on your defense and no forwards above your 3rd line, in addition to adding one of the game's best forwards (Hossa), then you're going to dominate in the next season.

Detroit breaches the 120 point mark, and I personally think that they have a small although still existent shot at the NHL regular season points record.

I think that San Jose could actually get the Presidents Trophy from Detroit... depending on how long it takes the team to adjust to a new style and coach. San Jose is a solid team.

As far as the CUP, way too early to tell. Many players have moved teams and there are many Head Coaching changes.

As far as the Stars go, you got AVERY! I am not so sure thats a good thing. He is known to be a locker room liability. He could hurt the chemistry that the STARS showed last season. Good luck  to you and I hope Morrow can control the wild card known as AVERY!
