I want to get a puppy but when we go out of the house we do not know where to put it. We do not want to put it outside because in the winter it will freeze to death because we are thinking of getting a little Maltese. Do you think it will be a safe and good idea to put the puppy in the basement? The basement is not finished so we are not sure if it is safe. Also where can I buy a puppy besides the shelter because there are no Maltese puppies there. I live in the Detroit Michigan area and I want to know if there is a pet store where they sell puppies at a cheep price. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL WHO ANSWERED!

  1. You put the puppy in a crate.  Its the safest thing for him..  you wont have to worry about him chewing things or eating something he shouldnt..  plus it will help housebreak him.

Dogs should learn to tolerate a crate anyways.

Use the maltese club to get a referral to a reputable breeder.

Do not buy from a petshop..  the puppies there are from puppy mills and are often unhealthy.. and many are inbred, or not even purebred at all!

You can also search www.petfinder.com for maltese in rescue in your area.

  2. buy a crate or cage to keep it there

if you want it have more room lock it in the bathroom with its cage some toys and a tray full of newspaper (for pee and p**p) make sure to take the toilet roll out first

  3. You put the dog in the house, in a crate.

    Duh?

    DO NOT BUY FROM PETSTORES!

Petstore puppies come from puppy mills, are unhealthy, ect..

  4. Here's one that's better than cheap:

    Hope it helps!

  5. I have been to Mi. many times and I can tell you that if you put your puppy outside in winter, it will die. Get a crate to keep him him during the day, and when you are not at home. Make sure he has a couple of chew toys, something soft to lay on, and plenty of fresh water in a bowl that won't tip over. The basement will be too cold too. He needs to be warm just like you do.
