I have been offered the opportunity of a life time, i live in Australia and i have been nominated for an amazing award.

During the past two years i have being doing a trainee ship in nursing, last year we decided when i finished my training we would start trying for a family, now with the award comes the offer to pick a country of my choice anywhere in the world to complete further training overseas..

Oh my goodness I'm 27 this year and my other half is 29 my contract would be anywhere between 1 year to as long as i like.. So now i am stuck do we stop trying for our little family, or do we start our family overseas?

Sorry this is long winded but we have been TTC now for over a year to no success!

Just for fun what part of the world do you live? And what is the health system like?

  1. I am an ex-pat currently in Switzerland, currently trying to conceive my first child, so maybe I am just a little bit biased, but I say, go for it.

Do the research on health care in the country to which you are moving.  I learned that Switzerland has a lower infant mortality rate than my home country.

Stop trying to conceive until you make sure to get your health insurance in order and that you completely understand all the ins and outs of the program.  Health insurance is handled very differently in different places and you don't want to be surprised or confused by bills once you are already pregnant.

Before you start you also want to find a good OB/GYN.  Keep in mind that you may have a language barrier, so it may take longer to find a doctor.  But you will find English-speaking doctors in every major city in the world.  I called the tourist office here and they were able to give me a list of English speaking doctors.

As long as you plan ahead well there is no reason not to start your family overseas.

In your shoes I would be hesitant to put off ttc until after your contract is over.  If it has been over one year you may want to consider getting some medical advice.  Don't delay until you are older.  I started ttc at 31, and having had no luck yet, am worried about my ability to have my 2 kids before my odds start going down at 35.

But I still say, don't turn down either of these life changing opportunities!

  2. I would go to the Bahamas or Hawaii, somewhere nice and warm...lol. I would definitely go, you both are young and have plenty of time to raise a family. Do not let this opportunity go as you might regret it later on in life if you do. And like you said, you could begin your family anywhere, what a great opportunity for your child as well:)

  3. I think you should go for it too. h**l youre still young and its only a year. If you dont you 'll always wonder what would it have been like. Go for it, you can start ttc again when you come back. And congratulations on finishing the training. I live in Ireland and the health system here is awful! Dont pick Ireland as your country!!

  4. i think you should def go for it..... even if you go over there for a year or 2 and see hoe you like it and take hubby with you doesnt mean you have to stop trying that way if it does happen you will be able to think about whether you want to come back home to aussie (im an aussie too by the way lol) or stay there and start the family, youd have the best of both worlds lol good luck hope you have a lot of fun and congratulations!!!!!!!!!

  5. i think you shud go for it...its a once in a lyf tym oppertunity lyk u sed...i think u can start ur family a year later since ur oly 27 it wouldnt b much of a problem...talk to ur better half..n i dont think starting ur family overseas is a good idea...

  6. i say go for it.
