that is the article on AFL.com about it.

as an umpire myself (not afl) I dont mind the idea as more correct decisions will be made insted of bad ones.

I think anything to increase the number of correct decisions is good, not saying that every call will be right (is it ever?) but what do you think about it??

  1. If they have a clear view its a good idea but they shouldnt focus on it to much and get distracted from the motion of the ball too much and miss scoring possibilities

  2. In all the change in football, the boundary umpires job is the only one that hasn't changed since 1966, when the out on the full rule was introduced .   I believe all umpires on the ground should be central and rotate each quarter to the boundary where they still pay frees as they see them .    I just think with the speed of the game now , that its ridiculous if a boundary umpire sees an obvious infringement,  he he can't act on it .   Same with goalies,  if they see a player held , pushed etc why let it go!

  3. IT will dramatically increase the number of goals scored from free kicks.  It has been a traditional art form of the full back to hold the jumper in a way that the field umpire can't see what's going on.

Man - letting the goal umpire blow a whistle would be scary for most defenders I'd reckon!  Yikes.

You may see someone break the goal kicking record this year and he may be a smaller forward.  I'm undecided - I'd like to see it in action.

Boundary umpire doesn't bother me providing they keep up with the play and don't blow the whistle when they're unsighted throwing the ball in!!

  4. no its wrong, its not right, i dont agree, very bad, cant be good, wont be good, get rid of it, stop it now.

  5. Good idea as the Real Umpires are blind most of the time and can easily miss stuff like a push in the back for instance and knowing the spies are out to get them the players will think twice before they can do something blatant away from the real Umpire's view.  Wouldn't want them getting tickets on themselves though and abuse their new-found power.

  6. What happens if the central umpire See's one decision and the boundary See's another, who overrides who?

  7. Its a fantastic idea

but only for serious breeches of the code

    not for tiggy touch-wood decisions

  8. As long as it is in consultation with the field umpire.

  9. I'm have umpired before locally and it sounds terrible. the game would be that confusing. they should only stick to reporting players
