Question:

What do you think about Gerbera Dasies and Carnations? ?

I really don't like roses, and gerbera daises are hard to do as boutonnières because one they are too large, and two they cannot be done the night before due to the fact that they need water.

I really want to do my bouquets out of gerbera daises, and boutonnières/corsages with carnations...

Do you think they would look okay together? I'm not mixing the bouquets.. so it's not like they would be together.. but realistically my bouquet is going to be gerbera daises and my fiance's corsage will be a carnation.. any help appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I'm no floral expert, so I can't really say. Personally, I'm not a carnation fan. They look as good as they cost, in my honest opinion. However, if you like them, go for it. It'll save you money because they're a very inexpensive flower.

I would talk to a florist though, and get their expert opinion. They'll have lots of books and picture for you to look at with examples, and explain what flowers go best with gerbera daisies. They might come up with something you love even more at the right price.

When it comes to flowers, I say leave it to the experts.

  2. I had gerberas in my bouquet and my husbands corsage, and it worked out really well. I got it done at a florist though, so they could have done it that morning.

I'm not sure how carnations would look with gerberas, but if you think they look good then thats all that matters!

  3. hmm honestly carnations make me think of funeral flowers and always look kinda cheap

  4. Thats fine. People hardly notices flowers and you should pick what you want! Just don't mix the two flowers together in one bouquet

  5. I think that's fine. We used mini carns for boutonnieres, and they looked great! You could also use little asters, which are closer to a gerbera if you like.

  6. I think that it would be fine to do the boutionerres with carnations and the bouquets of gerbera daisies. I personally had roses in my bouquet - but my bridesmaids carried gerbera bouquets. The groomsmen all had single rose boutionnieres - everything blended together just fine. I don't think anyone even noticed the boutionniere flowers.

If you wanted to you could always make the boutionerres with silk gebera daisies - this way you wouldn't have to worry about keeping them in water and then everything will match. But I don't see anything wrong with doing carnations and daisies.

  7. I happen to love carnations, so perhaps I'm biased. Since carnations can be dyed to match any color, I don't think you'd be off base using carnations as the bouttonieres.

Edit: There are poor quality carnations just like there are poor quality roses, daisies, etc. etc. A carnation in full bloom is gorgeous and smells delicious. They were my grandmother's favorite flower, so I will be having carnations and garden roses at my own wedding.
