  1. His technique is pretty good for a street fighter I must admit. He's a good striker.

  2. Kimbo is all hype. His last fight was fixed and he should have lost to one of the worst heavyweights on the planet. We all have to remember that all he did was beat up nobodys on the street that didn't know how to fight. He's fighting world class fighters now and I hope Shamrock subs him.

  3. He is a good fighter in his own right. Unfortunately he is not quite ready for the "Big Shows" and Elite XC has jumped the gun with his promotion. Now they are stuck trying to line up fights that he can win, instead of waiting until he is ready and putting him up against some real fighters.

Fighting Ken Shamrock will be a big test for him, even though Ken is a little over the hill and has lost his last 3+ fights. Ken is a legitimate MMA fighter, but everyone knows he is not going to take it to the mat and that is what Elite XC is banking on. I'm sure they are hoping that Ken will stand up with Kimbo and see Kimbo get a lucky KO.

Im sure it will be an interesting fight, but if I where a betting man i would bet on Ken, even though I think he is a douch.

  4. I think he has some legitimate Hype if that makes sense. He has potential to be great he just needs time.

  5. I enjoyed watching him when he was a street fighter, but i have yet to see him fight a half good fighter in MMA. I like the fact that he's really confident cause it makes it that more fun to watch, but i can't see him with a UFC belt around his waist yet.

  6. I think that he's mostly hype. He's a strong puncher but he has no real skills and he is unproven.  As time goes on and he has to fight more seasoned, better skilled fighters, his lack of talent will become more apparent.  He's a side-show attraction that will sell a lot of pay-per-view and bring more ratings to MMA events but he's a clown compared to the elite in the sport and is not good enough to be considered a legitimate professional.

  7. The guy almost lost 2 to a tomato can in his last fight! I think that pretty much says it all. I actually thought he was better than that but you have to remember that they have been given easy fights in order to take advantage of his name. I think he will turn out to be an average to below average  fighter. Nothing even close to great.

  8. Well, if he grew up in a dangerous neighborhood and is a former gangbanger who has been in a few trust me, he's legit.  In college I met a bunch of former gang members who got themselves out of that life through studying, and they told me, a lot of those guys are dangerous.  Here's the thing too, many of them don't even look dangerous; some may appear perfectly harmless, like the nicest people but you see them fight, and its almost supernatural.

"Slice" strikes me as a pissed off street brawler out to "show those losers" what "real fighting" is "all about."  Some of the biggest critics of the UFC, believe it or not, are former gang members or peole who have been in nasty street brawls.  Consider the backgrounds of the majority of the fighters; I mean come on, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy!?"  Everett Washington!?  I mean, how many of those guys, from Kimbo Slice's point of view, have "street cred?"

The way I size Slice up, is as a pissed off street brawler who apparently hasn't gotten fighting out of his system yet, and he's out to take out his anger on all the "fakes" in the UFC.  That is the impression he gives me.  Here is the thing about street brawlers; the reason, despite no training at all, they are able to beat trained fighters, has to do with the fact that a fight is ultimately decided by a person's ability to focus, and how that focus will work in tune with the person's instincts.

Think about it; "he sucker punched him."  "He was taken by surprise."  "He did not see it coming."  Blah, blah, blah, B.S. B.S. B.S., and so on.  Oh yeah, and my personal favorite "its important to take the enemy by surprise!"  Virtually, every strategy, every trick, devised by fighters, is to make the other guy lose focus.  Think for a second; when he's aware of what you're doing, even an untrained bozo will effectively resist any grappling or striking attempt.  What sets apart an expert, from an amateur, is that an expert will strike, even when to the audience there apparently isn't any laxes in the opponent's defenses.

You have two dudes, both "en guarde" and all that.  The dude on the left throws a lightning fast jab, its not even a power hit, but it has so much of the body weight behind it, and it lands with such speed and precision it knocks the dude on the right down.  The audience thinks "WTF?"  See, to the audience, the dude on the right was on his guard, and seemingly, his defense was solid, however, the dude on the left, an expert, somehow detected a lax in focus on the dude on the right, and that lax of focus, that split second of distraction is all he needed to knock him down.

What this has to do with Kimbo Slice; street brawlers forced to survive have a level of focus well beyond that of even a trained fighter.  However, such focus can only be triggered, when their lives are in genuine danger.  However, at the same time, if a former street brawler receives formal training, they can learn how to reawaken that ability to focus they had on the streets in the middle of a fight that isn't life threatening.

So what I'm saying here?  Don't underestimate Slice; he could turn out to be very dangerous.

    later.
