What do you think about McCain's joke that maybe the exported cigs to Iran are killing them?

Seems like he was asked about the increase of cigarettes to Iran, and he came up with a joke (I could see the wheels working in his head, as he almost butted in on the reporter), that maybe it was killing them?

Okay, I asked a question about a statement that Obama made, and I heard this in the news, so to be fair, I thought I'd ask it too. So for the record, I'm on the fence, thought what Obama said was terrible, but what about this one?

Personally I think McCain probably meant the enemy in Iran, not everybody, the whole population, but what do you think?

If Iran is the enemy, why are we selling them cigarettes and getting oil from them? Did you know that Russia is Irans ally?

I'm okay with the joke.  The only thing that makes me a little uneasy is that its the second one he has made with regard to Iran, counting the "Bomb bomb bomb Iran" line.

It was just a joke. Not every word of a politician has to be used for or against them politically. It is good to see politicians still have a sense of humor. As to whether he meant the whole population or the military I don't think his remark, being a joke deserves this degree of analysis. I'm sure what part of the population could be affected never entered his mind. Does this post mean I support McCain? No. I just support common sense. I don't even live in the US so won't be voting for either McC or Ob.

I hadn't heard about it, but when I saw that cigarets were among the major exports to Iran, that's the line my mind took, as well. Surely we can have a little levity without filtering its through all the politics.

I think it's funny. But then I am conservative and we are generally a happy people. Liberals are so serious and pessimistic they have no capacity for amusement.
