I personally would rather deal with global warming and funding terrorist then having to worry about radioactive waste because that stuff is hazardous for millions of years.

  1. It's absolutely necessary to fight global warming.

We can engineer plants to be safe and secure.  We know how to dispose of the waste, it's just a political problem designating a location.  It's far better to bury the waste than leave it above ground which is where it is now.

This is not a close call.

  2. Personally, I think that nuclear power has one key benefit.  Nuclear power does not produce air pollution.

Yes, there is cause for concern as far as the proper disposal of nuclear waste, but I think that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

A significant amount of the world's electricity comes from nuclear power plants.  In the US, no nuclear power plants have been built in at least the past 20 years.

While there are concerns associated with the disposal of nuclear waste as well as nuclear power plant accidents (such as Three Mile Island and Chernobyl), I think that nuclear power is something to consider for the future.

  3. Im fore it, Earth has been powered by it for billions of years, and its still going on strong!

  4. SL...you need to do some research... America IS building N. plants.. as we speak.

Like you, the waist concerns me greatly...and regardless what else is said of it, it does not convene to disposal. It 'dies' in half life's..and is not life supportive in ANY way, shape, form ,or fashion.  Earth does not break it down...ever...it is impervious to our habitats, environments, and ecosystems...it is a refined pollutant, unlike any other substance naturally occurring on this planet.

Unfortunately, it HAS financial positive attributes, and our culture is financially geared to function...the capitalist mentality will win out over all else, and N energy is here for better or worse. All we can hope to achieve as far as restricting it's further development at this point is to express our dissatisfaction with the means and methods of N energy's byproducts and how they are contained.

       Sad... huh..?

  5. Nuclear Power, if handled properly can be recyled. It is also by far the most efficient form of energy that we have come up with so far, and we would be foolish not to utilize it to the best of our advantage. It could transform space travel, and easily satisfy energy needs on our planet. France for instance is almost totally nuclear powered, and they aren't in an energy crisis, like most of the other developed nations who are trying to be "safe". One more point.---The French have NEVER had a nuclear accident in nearly 40 years.

  6. Now we even have members of the Sierra Club admitting that it doesn't pollute.  Nuclear and eventually fusion power are the non polluting power sources available 24 x 7 unlike solar and wind.  Storage of the waste for thousands not millions of years is perfectly controllable and manageable unlike trying to figure out out to reduce the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.
