I am a Republican and don't know what to think....I am soooo against teenage, out of wedlock and unplanned pregnancy. Do you think this will hurt Palin/McCain because it shows such irresponsibility? I will still vote Republican but will say I am LESS than impressed.

  1. This is just for the person who says there is no proof that this story is true. Check the link to msnbc

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26496189/

  2. Wow the VP tried to claim her daughter's out-of-wedlock kid as her own through lies.

Though these things are their own family business, they do play a role in politics just as John Edward's and Bill Clinton's lies in personal matters did.

Then again, no politicians are clean these days. You already know about Bill Clinton and John Edwards. Now its Gov. Palin with her lies. McCain already left his first wife for a younger, wealthier woman years ago and upset the Reagans and other republicans at the time.

But then again, Obama's mom had him out-of-wedlock when she was 18 years old with some kenyan who's still a mystery and Obama even has mystery half siblings in Africa and stuff. And then there was that republican guy trying to get g*y lovers at the airport bathrooms.

So the politicians (both republicans and democrats) these days all seem to have messed up personal lives but I think they are only the microcosm of the problems that exist today.

I think s*x abstinence should be pushed more as the republicans often do more of. And yes abortions should be discouraged if done at all. But we have to be pragmatic too and hand out condoms just in case to decrease teen pregnancies and its problems.

Go Obama and Biden!! Support change!!

  3. I think this shows the hypocrisy of the Palin party.  She is pro- abstinence and critical of children out of wedlock, but here her own daughter is pregnant at 17.  As a dem, I don't think it will hurt her as much as Obama's accusations of him being in a muslim terrorist group, but it really shows a negative sign on the campaign for the GOP.

  4. Any Source? Newspaper/issue?  Web site?  Did't think so.

  5. I am in my eighties..

I've seen many bad things happen in some very good families.

I've seen a bad thing happen when an adult President of the USA

disgraced the presidency of the USA by having s*x with a young

    intern in the Oval Office.

How did his political party respond to moral criticism?

This way: "You pubs are dumb. It's only about s*x. NOTHING IMPORTANT."

The intelligensia here will compare that response with the response of the same people who are now saying that an early sexual mistake by one of your children is GREATLY IMPORTANT TO THE FUTURE OF THE USA.

  6. I think it is a non issue

What a candidates 17 year old daughter does is none of my concern.

I give her credit for not taking the easy road and having an abortion

Shows she is a young woman who takes resonsibility for her actions

  7. I too am a republican, but I really don't like what happend to her daughter but more on the fact that she's got a child with Downs syndrome and a three year old a home.

  8. Well, since it's not her DAUGHTER that's running for vice president, I'm not sure why it makes a difference.

I don't think anyone is FOR out-of-wedlock, unplanned pregnancy, so saying that you're against it is a bit facetious.  Mistakes happen (ever hang out on the Adolescent section of YA? That will open your eyes.)

Kids do dumb stuff.  That's why they are kids -- they aren't finished, yet.  It's unfortunate, but it sounds like they are dealing with the consequences in a mature and responsible manner.

As the mother of a 17-year-old daughter:  There, but for the grace of God, go I.  You raise 'em, you trust 'em, you do your best. You can't keep 'em under lock-and-key 365/24/7, not if you want to raise an independent, self-thinking individual.

Besides, hasn't anyone noticed that Barak Obama, himself, is the result of a "quick" marriage, and was born six months after his parents' wedding?

    It happens *shrug*.

  9. You can't call Palin irresponsible for her 17 year old daughters mistakes.

  10. Palin has put her ambition before her family.  She and McCain have knowingly submitted her daughter to this kind of scrutiny and it is unforgiveable.  Palin's own spokesman did not know of the pregnancy 2 days ago-what does that say about openness, and even a potential that they wouldn't have revealed it at all-thinking naively known one would find out.  This woman supported the Bridge to Nowhere and Ted Stevens -check out Alaska's papers (today).  TThat this woman could be President of the United States is terrifying.

  11. Yes, Palin was a weak choice for McCain. In hindsight he probably would not of picked her. There were a lot more qualified people out there and now with the pregnant child, and her statements, it is looking like a bad choice.

  12. Should parents be responsible for their children all their life ?

Palin is a mother, she cares more about her daughter than her political futur...Obama denounced his spiritual father, Wright, just for being nominated...

Palin is a responsible person, you can trust her. She does what she says.

I am impressed, because she takes this risk by love.

  13. Forgive, support, and realize it wasn't Palin's mistake it was her daughters.  As a good father of a good daughter I/we survived an unplannned pregnancy.  We never condemned we only loved.  They got married, completed their education and now both work in the medical field.  Oh, and now I have a second grandchild on the way.

  14. great at raising her kids, she'll be even better at helping to lead our nation. NOT. thank you, John McSame for gift-wrapping the election for Obama/Biden.

  15. As an American, I don't really give a f u ( k that Bristol is pregnant. Just as much as I didn't give a f u ( k that Edwards had an affair.

It will probably reinforce the conservative base because Bristol is choosing to keep the baby.

    I believe in Sarah Palin

  16. Republican or not life is full of things that come along. You take it a day at a time and love the day. I have a grand son born to his mother when she was 17. I love him every day. What I feared most was that she would choose to abort and I am so glad she didn't. He's 10 now and full of life and fun. Remember this when you think of those words said by Obama (I do not want my daughters to be PUNISHED with a BABY)

  17. it contradicts everything she believes in so i think Sarah is a very bad choice for the VP

Mccain should have atleast done some research or picked someone from Washington instead of a stranger who he met once

Don't blame anyone if he loses the election

  18. This is the daughter's second baby...the first was her "brother." These people are weird. Here's the story of how Sarah covered up for her daughter's first pregnancy (with the Down's Syndrome baby) and then gets stuck with a second pregnancy almost immediately, (If she is pregnant at all at this time?)

  19. Her daughter simply made a mistake, it happens. The point is we are all sinners, Democrats and Republicans alike. When terms like" Family Values" are tossed about, you tend to think that Republicans feel that they are  above the fray. None of us are actually. So when a Republican politician ends up being g*y, caught in an adulterous affair or in this case an out-of wedlock birth( by a Politicians child) it gets blown out of proportion.Governor Palin's daughter is human, no more , no less. Just something to think about.

  20. Shows someone didn't have sense, experience, or judgment enough to vet his veep. It all comes down to McCain's laziness. Shows why he was content to loll in a hammock for 5 years in Nam while some gave all.

  21. well what can we  say about her pregnancy , she is pregnant after 9 month she will be a mother , between all that u vote for her parent , who cares

  22. The thread originated on the dailykos.com. Could these morons be more vile and disrespectful? Slander and liable are not speech protected by the first amendment. I cannot wait for the day when someone finally sues the pants off the dailykos.com. It is one thing to attack Sarah Palin, she chose a career in politics, but to attack her minor children is just disgusting. This is just the same kind of vile attacks the uber-liberal demoncraps threw at Chelsea Clinton (who by the way was not running for office) during the primaries. I'd love to see one of these "bloggers" grow a pair and say something like this to Gov. Palin's face. I'd love to see one of these "truth seekers" provide evidence to support their claims. George Soros should have his visa revoked for funding the dailykos.com.

  23. Personally, I don't think it should affect the campaign although it probably will. It doesn't show irresponsibility of Sarah Palin, and I don't think it is fair to judge the daughter because she is not the one running for office. The daughter's decision to keep the baby and marry the father is a wise one. I think that if anything, it highlights the family's pro-choice stance, and shows family values that even though the parents aren't pleased with the pregnacy, they are still able to love, support and accept the actions of the daughter.

I think it is unfair to judge Sarah Palin on this subject.

  24. I think if this were from the Obama camp he would already have been torn apart so to all those saying leave the daughter alone I say heck NO. Children are a reflection of their parents either directly or indirectly. Having a pregnant 17 year old says A LOT about a mother's training. Now it may turn out not to be a bad thing in future with God's grace and mercy but it is nevertheless something no one wants at this age. All that c**p about our beautiful daughter and how proud we are and all that are all lies because there is no way they would have wanted this esp as a VP nominee. I can't believe people aren't even bashing her more for this. I am so annoyed, it's hypocritical...running on family values and abstinence and now this. And we want her to be a role model VP because as a woman that is what she will be expected to be for all young ladies..who better to look up to than the VP on the USA. If this was coming from Obama y'all wld have torn him apart by now and the republicans deserve it in this instance because of their righteous than thou attitude of being God's chosen ones.

  25. I think that the Democrats never fail to amaze me how low they will go to win an election.  They have gone even lower than I can imagine and I think that basically they are lower than wale ****, however, before this election is over I believe they will even sink to lower levels, if it is possible.

  26. Her daughter's not on the ticket, dear.

  27. I feel it is not important as an issue.  I feel a politician's private life, is just that. Their private life.  While I agree that while being in the public eye, the lines between public and private are crossed many times, I disagree with the fact that people make big issues out it.

Issues like the economy, the war in Iraq, high gas prices, should be our focus as voters, not the short comings or the private affairs of the people who are running.

Vote with your heart/mind.  Not just with your party.

You are American first and your Party 2nd.

  28. Don't hold this against Sarah Palin. It shows that she is human. It's the way that she responds to it that you should look at. She had a special needs child instead of aborting it. Her daughter, following her example, chose to keep her baby and not kill it.

  29. I'm against it too, but it happens.  It happened even before abortions were legal.  You cannot blame the mother for what the daughter did.  The good news is that the mother now has first hand knowledge what millions of mothers across this nation are dealing with.  At least the girl is not getting an abortion.

  30. Life happens.  Teenagers do stupid things and a lot of girls wind up pregnant.  I would never hold it against any ones mother.  I went to high school with a girl who was brought up in a very religious family.  She was involved in a lot of things with the church and still wound up pregnant at 16.  She knew she made a mistake but, kept the baby and lived with what she had done.  SHe is one of the best mothers I have ever seen.  If you have the guts to stand up to the whole country and admit what you (or your child) have done then I think you are a great person.  I don't think a lot of people in politics know how to take it when someone is honest.
