Gaia - that punishment according to the woman's husband also meant that he had the right to kill the man who killed his unborn child.

  1. No, they are not hypocrits.  I've yet to meet one church member of any group that practices and believes 100% what their church says.  Many Catholics are pro-choice.  Most in the US stopped following the Catholic doctrine on families long ago.  How many huge Catholic families do you see anymore?  Not many - they're down to 1 or 2 like most families.

With all the so-called "christian leaders" out there molesting children, having affairs, taking drugs and paying for prostitutes, this isn't even worth the effort it took to post it.  There's waaaaaaaaaay better examples of "christian" hypocrits.

  2. The Catholic church has espouse hate messages for years even centuries, Jews, Gypsies, Women priests, Divorce, Lesbians, Africans a century ago, Indians in all countries, Arabs, Homosexuals (oh wait a minute I mean only the ones not priests) Did I leave anybody out ? What a full time hate group. We all remain for some obscure reason probably because ones parents joined.

  3. Back in the first century AD people had no idea when conception occurred. For a long time, life was not thought to enter the fetus until the "quickening" -- the time when it first moves in the womb. In fact, American common law did not consider the killing of a late term fetus, (as when a man beats his very pregnant wife and she loses the baby) to be murder. Legislatures had to enact statutes to make this correction.

Bishops are very well educated so I seriously doubt that any one of them said that Catholic doctrine on when human life begins was settled 1900 years ago. If you have a source please post it in additional comments under your question.

  4. Once again we see the problem of mixing religion and politics. This shouldn't be happening. Given the Catholic Church's problems they may want to be thankful they have any parishioners left. Their misogynistic views alone would be enough to make women run screaming.

  5. Catholic Priests are so messed up they ought to just shut up until no one remembers their hushing up for years of priests and little boys and girls.

They have lost their moral grounds and need to worry more about their own carpet cleaning than anyone else.

Its truly shameful what they did, and having an opinion that differs from the so-called leaders of the Church is a positive, not a negative.

They have served their flocks ill.

  6. Catholic Bishops in the first century also thought the earth was flat.

The Bible seems to care little about a fetus.

Exodus 21:22 says, "If men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her...he shall be punished according to the woman's husband...and pay a fine determined by a judge."

The death penalty is reserved for kids who curse their parents:

Exodus 21:17 "He that curseth his father or mother, shall surely be put to death."

  7. What??!  Catholic bishops now take mature women on the carpet??  What happened to the altar boys?

  8. Well, for being such a sophisticated, educated and intellectual Democrat (well, that's what they always tell me they are!) I don't understand her poor decision to pretend to speak for the Church regarding their position on abortion.

Does she really think Democrats are so stupid as to take her word for it?

  9. Nothing.  I'm not Catholic.  All of my Catholic friends are pro choice...if the Church starts "slapping down" parishoners, those pew will be even more empty.

  10. Pelosi is inconsistent.  She claims to believe in Catholic doctrine but supports abortion.  The two are oil and water.  She needs to pick one belief system or the other and stop riding the fence.

  11. Who cares.  The Catholic church has bigger problems.  They should stop covering up the sexual abuses their priests have inflicted on the congregation. I'm surprise that the Church as a corporation is still solvent given all the claims they have had to settle financially.
