Why? Please be as detailed as possible.

I personally LOVE all bully breeds.

I'm sick and tired of all the haters.

Not ALL bully breeds are bad.

I don't understand. What do YOU think.

Honest opinions. Thank you!

  1. NO dog breeds are bad, some are less people friendly (Chow) , some are more protective of family (Dobe and Rott have huge ties to family)  some are very regimented in wanting to know where they lay in the family heirarchy (Pit)

just a small example of 'traits'.  we people are not all the same, we all have different traits.  the Pit Bull is the new Rott or Doberman..it was the black n tan dogs in the 70s that everyone hated.  I had many dobermans, my last dobe just passed away after 14 years, she was like one of my children...it was a very sad loss to all of us.  I trained many rotts, they are very awesome and loyal dogs.

I have moved on to pit bulls, mainly because I got a free pit puppy rescued from a guy that bred for fighting.  i was alittle intimidated at first, because of the huge rep, but man, this dog is honestly the best one we have ever had.  he is loyal, he knows his place in the family, he shows confidence and is secure, he is protective of the kids and house...

but a killer he is not.  he will scare the bejezzus out of you if you are not supposed to be say....coming in my door without an invite...

but, there was a squirrell living in my house.  I caught him coming out of the eaves, and popped him with a BB gun.  I thought, a dog is a dog, he will put him out of his misery.  the squirrel wasnt dead, so i let Zeus inviestigate, figuring one quick bite and it would be over with.

10 min later, Zeus was still nosing it, trying to figure out what to do with it.  he pawed it, and the squirrell bit his foot!  he shook him off, then he nosed him to death...he wouldnt bite.  i was actually quite suprised.  my parents rot weilers were great hunters ,my dad owns acerage and the dogs were allowed to roam, they would come home with rabbits, snakes, etc....it was kinda cool.  i was suprised what a wus zeus is...such a big bad pit.  my neighbor got a real kick out of it, cause shes got some kinda dog that looks like half the size of a husky, and she kills everything in the yard!

zeus is very athletic.  he isnt out for the kill, but he LOVES the hunt. hes got huge prey drive.  if its moving, he is after it.  he has caught two birds in mid air....i got him to cough one up, and he lived!

Pits have huge tolerance to pain.  Hence, they are great family animals.  my kids tug on zeus's ears, skin, feet, he loves it.  he has Never shown an ounce of aggresion to the kids.

these guys are not for everyone.  I dont think I would have had good luck had I not trained so many dogs before I got Zeus.  they require exercise, training...this is where knowing his place really comes into play.  He knows his place, because I taught him his place.  he knows that I am the boss.  Had this not been established, there could be major problems in the house with im doing what he wants instead of what i want.

so anyways, Pits can be totally awesome dogs.  Mine is the most loyal dog I have ever had the pleasure of having.  They make great family pets, for those who actually play with their dogs.

Again tho, I would think previous dog ownership would be a prerequisit to having a Pit, and it would have to be a stronger breed dog, Dalmation , Doberman, Rott, Shepard, etc.  to kinda, Prep you for what you need to do with this little guy.

ps.  he is most defenitely the strongest dog ive ever had.  he weighs about 55 lbs, but man he is a little powerhouse!

  2. hi,

The American Pit Bull Terrier is a companion and family dog. Originally bred to "bait" bulls, the breed evolved into all-around farm dogs, and later moved into the house to become "nanny dogs" because they were so gentle around children. Their tenacity, gameness, and courage make them popular competitors in the sports of weight pulling, agility, and obedience competition.

    hope this helps.

  3. I think that Pit Bulls are great dogs. And, people normally automatically assume that they are bad dogs because, they are used most as fighting dogs. They were trained by a person to do that. So, basically they are good dogs, and are doing what they are TRAINED to do. Pit Bulls, are actually pretty friendly, loyal, submissive and obdient

  4. Pitbulls are friendly, kind and tolerant dogs. More so than other kinds of dogs.

However, they have a bad reputation, so a******s buy them and train them to be agressive. Then accidents happen, and the dog/breed gets blamed.

If well trained it's possible to leave a child alone with a pitbull. he won't bite even if the kid hurts the dog

  5. Like any dog, they are what you make them.  Or like people, I have seen good and bad.  I don't think violence is bred into them.

  6. I love the breed, but hate some of the owners. Not just the ones who train them to be aggressive & fight each other, but also the owners who feel the desire to breed their Pit Bull when they're so overpopulated and misunderstood.

It actually amuses me, to see the reactions on strangers' faces, when I go face-to-face with a Pit Bull, and give them kisses on the snout. Some people look at me like I'm crazy and have a death wish.

I wouldn't mind owning a Pit Bull (or mix) in the future, when I get a house with a yard.

  7. i do honestly LOVE! the pitbull breed and ALL bully breeds... i hate it when i hear someone talking about how they are so mean and they should just put them all down.. yes pitbulls are very strong, and are used in alot of dog fights but i dosnt mean ALL  of them are mean.. i wish people would stop assuming and get to know the breed.. i mean poodles can be in dog fights too, and poodles can attack but what do you usually hear about a lab attacking someone and almost killing someone, or a pittbull...

they are actually thinking about putting english bulldogs down because they are a bully breed. and my friend just made a point.. it is just like racisim but with dogs...

  8. Maybe you can tell my son how wonderful those cute, little, bully breeds are.  He was attacked by a pit 10 years ago and still has the scars.  He was NOT teasing the dog, or even near it.  My son was talking to his friend, and the pit jumped the fence and chased him down.  This dog has also gone into another lady's yard and killed her chiuaua, and has even gone after his owners children.  I dont know why the dog was not taken away.

  9. a pit is kool

  10. I DONT LIKE THEM OR HATE THEM, BUT ONE PITBULL ATTACK MY DOG WITHOUT REASON AND CHANGE THE TEMPERAMENT OF MY DOGGY!!!^_^ BUT IF ITS WELL TRAINED AND HAS BEEN TREATED WELL, IT SHOULD BE A NICE DOG!!!

  11. every dog in the world acts them same when they are born.

however the type of people that buy pitbulls are usually psychos, and then the dogs grow up to be psychos too.

  12. I love 'Bully Breeds.' Whether it be an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or American Bulldog, I'll love it. Of course, they can be dangerous, but this is the OWNER'S FAULT not the dog(s)'.

  13. I like Pit Bulls and think they are immensely misunderstood and misused.  They are the target dog of our generation and are taking the heat for the shortcomings of irresponsible and thick-headed people.

All the Pits I've met have been super sweet and needed only guidance as to what was acceptable behavior.  There's been only one Pit who's scared me - and that's because he was a dominant and severe resource guarder, not because he wanted a piece of me or another dog for no reason.

  14. i think they're vicious, trainable, but still, at heart, aggressive. if i was wrong then maybe the insurance company wouldnt raise your payment just for having a pit bull

  15. I LOVE THEM

so cute. so sweet and so funny. I love how they bark and growl. They aren't mean at all. They look mean. but i love them.

  16. I feel the same, my neighbors have three pit bulls, my parents hate them and put up a privacy fence but i dont agree. They dont anything any other breed of dog doesn't do. They aren't vicious and mean just because they bark at other dogs, all dogs do that. My neighbors have them trained and they listen to their owners. They have the instincts of every other dog. They want to protect their owners and are loyal to them and want to let other dogs know where their territory is. Pit bulls are just bigger and have a louder meaner bark. Thats just how the breed was built. I am so glad i can vent to someone about this issue. THANK YOU!!

  17. well, bulls are sometimes careful,as seen on mythbusters

  18. you know, i hate how all people judge the WHOLE breed. I mean pitbulls have such a bad reputation. I think it depends on the individual dog itself.

  19. Well, personally, after being bitten several times by pit bulls and having to deal with many pit bull accidents and incidents that involve dog fighting, you tend to not prefer those type of dogs. I think they have such a bad reputation because they enjoy biting, its normal for any animal, for them, most than others.

  20. Whoever gets bit by one will be F****D UP!

  21. i dont like them

and yes you are kinda righ tthere not all bad

but htey all have triggers that ca make then turn

and a dog may never be triggered

    or it might

    you never know

    its a gamble

  22. there are no bad breeds. they are only bad if you make them bad. i know many pitbulls that cuddle with the kids and wouldnt hurt a mouse. they act out on how they have been treated or taught. if everyone just loved their dog's then there would be no bad dog's

  23. I think they're gorgeous and really sweet dogs and I'd love to get an Am. Staff when I move out. One of my old friends had one and when we were little she'd follow us around and always want attention.

I don't believe any breeds are bad at all, it's all in how they're raised.

  24. I like some pit bulls but i prefer German Shepherd and other kind of dogs.

  25. ther isnt really a "bully" dog per say, ther dogs with great physical statures tht a trained by heartless people to fight for human pleasure. sorry but its the truth. the make great dogs for fam life( around older children tho.)

  26. American Pit Bull Terriers are a beautiful breed. The misunderstandings and racisms that surround Pit Bulls is a difficult thing to deal with when you love and understand them.

Every species on this earth, even humans, are born innocent and as they grow and mature their surroundings will shape them and determine how they will react to their environments, therefore, a Pit Bull that has been abused or raised around dog fighting will have a higher chance of being violent, just like any person on this earth.

We see it more in Pit Bulls right now because we are unfortunately stuck in an era where there are thousands of irresponsible owners who choose to use them as money making, ego boosting, accessories, not companion animals.

I read some comments earlier that people had wrote, one intelligent one was, " the only time I hear about Pit Bulls is when they kill a toddler." That was intelligent....... yeah, um... for those who have that view, there is a whole world of books, internet and even news televison specials out there that are educational about Pit Bulls, please take a second and learn about them. They are DOGS... not some odd species and they are just as capable as any other breed to be loving companion animals.

  27. They look cool and all i like them as well but they are very very aggressive and i read in the news that they've killed new born babies because they get jealous i personally would not get a pitbull

  28. I have 3 pit bulls and wouldn't trade them for anything. They are not bad dogs. When they are young they are very hyper and rambunctious. They just need to have good owners that are willing to take the time to work with them. I also have a 12 month old daughter and some people think that I am crazy to have her around them but they have never shown one ounce of aggression toward her. They love her and she loves them!!!

  29. They are killers. All dogs can bite if provoked, the difference is that a Pit Bull doesn't know how to bite, it only knows how to kill. And yes, it is ALWAYS the first time. They shouldn't be bred, it is not the dogs fault. Dogs are dogs, not people, different breeds do different things.

BTW--although Cocker Spaniels will nip at people more than most dogs, you have never heard of anyone being killed by one!! They nip and run away. That is how their breed is.

  30. I think that they are gorgeous dogs. They just get a lot of negative press. My personal favorite types of dogs are the bully breeds.

  31. I would never own one, but I'm finding more and more that their owners are more terrifying than the pit bulls themselves.
