  1. If you asked this question a few days ago,

my answer probably would of been different,

but after watching a simple movie,it has changed my view on police.

Yes i know there are some very bad, corrupt police out here,

but the good, honest ones shouldn't take the "heat" for them.

There are many, many good officers out here,

you just have to give them a chance,

like you do with everything in life.

  2. it is a thankless job that is life threatening.my dad was a cop for 40 years. i am a 5th generation retired officer. i did 25 years.it take a special person to do the job. all the whiners out their would never be able to do the job.the whiners are the ones that always complain until they themselves become a crime victim.

  3. I believe police officers are not unlike the rest of us in that they would like to have satisfying careers and monetary success.  The delineation between us and them begins in the type of work they do, the nature of their jobs.

Police officers are unlike any other profession in the world, (save maybe for soldiers.)  There is no other job on the planet that is so psychologically destructive for a human being (except being a soldier).  Most lay people have no idea what officers have seen, dealt with and had to learn to cope with.

Officers handle themselves differently according to different stages in their careers and exposure.  Most officers who are right out of academy are very excited to begin working because they (not unlike doctors and nurses) really want to make a difference.  Within a few years officers may become cynical as they have to deal with so much and can only get so far.  The justice system is slow and inadequate and the officer may become jaded.  Familial relationships suffer, addiction or domestic violence may surface as the officer desensitizes.  Unfortunately the previous stated are all maladaptive coping mechanisms a human uses to deal with traumatic events.

We need to keep in mind all that police officers endure as they try to do their job and give the police profession the same analytic courtesy as we do any other.

  4. personally.i think most are ok. but well over 40% are not worth anything.they lie, cheat and steal just like the rest of the world.

  5. Even though I dont like most cops Im intrested in becoming one.

What people dont always realize is that there are law abiding citzen who dont like the police.

You should post a question asking how many people have been hasseled by the police when they havent commited any crimes/

  6. There isn't much to say, If you're nice to them or they're nice to you its considered bribery anyway. Trust the guy who says you're his enemy, he's probably telling you the truth, and doesn't tie you up in obligations.

  7. I would have to say that most police officers think they are hot S**t on a silver platter when really all they are is cold turds on a paper plate. Whether you were caught speeding or arrested for murder, you are nothing but garbage to them. Most of them are indeed fat also. The fat ones are the meanest.

On the contrary, there are a very limited number of decent police that actually do their job and save people's lives. They focus more on helping and rescuing someone from danger. Filling their speeding quota isn't so important.

  8. I've had really good experience with the police.  I've rarely had to call the police - mainly because I don't do things or hang out with people that would cause me to have to call the police.  The people I've come into contact who have a problem with the police usually did something to create a problem in the first place.

  9. The ones I have encountered have all been nice and professional. Most have been friendly and helpful. I've received tickets on occasion... worked alongside when volunteering with Red Cross and Katrina evacuees, I've had conferences with them when they were the parents of my students, had them assist during fender benders.. and one time when my car was totaled... and have called (many years ago) for strange noises in my back yard.

Am 47, now, and in all my years of living in large cities and having any dealings with police, only one stands out as a "negative" experience.  I was getting a well-deserved speeding ticket and the officer just seemed a bit more surly than necessary...  It soured my morning, but, I figure, (a) I earned the ticket fair and square, and (b) I'm sure I have let my surly days sour other peoples' mornings, as well.  Surly happens.

Now then, the newscasts have no shortage of fodder, thanks to the apparent abundance of "crooked cops."   I, however, have not had the misfortune of ever having had dealings with them.

So, what I think is this. They have a tough job that I KNOW I could not do.  I know it.  I could not handle so much death (murders and car wrecks and suicides and freak accidents) without losing my mind (and I've already had to deal with 4 suicides-- and, believe me, my mind is not fully recovered from those).  So much danger, even in giving a traffic ticket, for a mostly unappreciative public.  And then trying to have a normal life and raise a family.

I just try to avoid encounters with them (like tickets) and pray for their safety whenever I see them about town.

  10. Retired 9-1-1 Police and Fire Dispatcher.   I have worked with some of the finest!!

Tough Job and they are not given enough credit!!!!!!!

  11. My home town was full of crooked cops that I hated.  When I moved away I learned that there are many cops that are honest and want to serve their community.  Those are the ones I admire and are the reason I want to become a police officer.

There are good ones and bad ones just like other jobs.  Some people become power hungry and abuse their authority, but many don't.

  12. I think society would crumble without us.  That's what I think.
