Rocky Marciano was won of the best heavyweight champions in the history of boxing.  Rock would have destroyed Mike Tyson, it would have been worse on Mike than the Holyfield beatings he took.  Rock most likely would have beat Liston as well.  Ali would have given Marciano trouble, simply because Rock would have been chasing Ali the entire 12 or 15 rounds eating jabs while he tried to land bombs, but no toe to toe slugger in history would have beaten Marciano.  To beat Rock, you had to box with speed and not trade.  Ali could have pulled it off, but not Liston or Tyson.

he wasn't better than ali, louis or jack johnson, but i would put him just below them, alongside dempsey and tunney...they would be my top 5.

the only reason marciano retired is because his manage al weill was ripping him off, and he would have made a comeback if he could've got out of the contract.

i believe he would've beaten tyson, but i don't know about liston.

Ali was the greatest boxer in my lifetime. Marciano was the greatest fighter. The others don't count.

I'm giving you a STAR Torres just for stating the very TRUE FACT that Tyson was OVERRATED. I think that Marciano along with maybe the Foreman of the 90's and Holyfield were several of the only fighters that would have been able to survive and thrive in a career of bareknuckle Prize Fighting. These guys could equally take as much as they could dish out!

Rocky is often unfairly pegged as a guy that did not fight top competition. That is NOT TRUE. Too much emphasis has been put on the age of his opponents rather than their actual skill level. So what if guys like Archie Moore, Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles had a few more candles on their Birthday cake! They were all 3 HIGHLY EFFECTIVE fighters when they fought Rocky and he deserves credit for beating them! The only exeption to this was Joe Louis who truly was a sad shell of his former great self. In that instance, Rocky himself knew that he did not beat the "real Brown Bomber". Other than that 1 example, "Which Rocky himself would'nt want credit for" Rocky's big name opponents were still very dangerous despite their so called "age". We sometimes as boxing fans get caught in the trap of putting more emphasis on someone's age than we do their actual skill and effeciancy! A "Prime" is an athlete's top, effective skill level! NOT A CALANDER AGE! As recent as Lennox Lewis we see that a Lennox who was pushing 37 would have defeated himself at 27! As Lennox stated "I'm like fine wine. I got better as time went on"! An even more dramatic example is the fact that "Big" George Foreman in the 90's was a much more skilled ring technician with a far superior chin and jab than he had at 25. He was also A LOT metally tougher! He himself says "There's no doubt that the 45 year old George would knock out the 25 year old George!

So what does all this mean?

It means that Hall of Fame Fighters Archie Moore, "Jersey" Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles were ALL still very good fighters! Rocky Marciano's record of 49 and 0 is a lot more REAL than the laughable "accomplishments" of someone like Tyson, who ducked Ring Magazine's number 1 contender Evander Holyfield for 2 years of a 3 year "title reign". Then in the 90's after the belt was essentially "given" to him by Don King, he actually preffered to be stripped of it rather than face Lennox Lewis! And yet people still act like Tyson actually accomplished something! Listen, if the highlight of your so called "prime" is beating Leon Spinx's frightened little brother Michael, You've got a SERIOUS PROBLEM with you resume!

Rocky Marciano "The Brockton Blockbuster" was one of the "toughest" men to ever be called "Heavyweight Champion of the World"! May his soul live on forever!

the fact the marciano won the world heavyweight title (not an alphabet one, the real deal!) whilst only weighing as much as the modern lightheavy limit.  he also fought wiv his heart on his cuffs and wasnt afraid to av a proper tear up wif th other guy!! i'd say he also has the best chin in boxing ever, purly coz of the beatinggs he would take off of much larger guys and still K.O the most of them. plus the fact that gloves back in the day "allowd more fist to be felt" shows that he was truley remarkable, refs also allowed for the fights to be much more brutil.  not to mention the fact that he finished his career undefeated speaks volumes for the guy.  i think also because he died so tragically and young makes him also be remebered much more then other older notible fighters

I don,t care if he was undefeated I don,t care if he only weighed 160lbs. He could have never beaten a Ali a Tyson a Lennox Lewis a Evander Holyfield a Larry Holmes A George Forman a Joe Frazier a young JOE LOUIS HE ONLY FOUGHT THE OLD BLACK GUYS in his time. Now do I think Rocky was a good fighter Yes I do but I am tired of white people telling me he was better than such and such I,ve seen all of Rocky's fights and he would have gotten killed by all of these guys I named I,m sorry guys but please give it a brake Rocky was a great little fighter and he was a h**l of a person I love Rocky how can you be a boxing fan and not love the Rock but if he stepped in the ring with Ali wow what and *** whip pen he would get I really would not want to see it because I like to think of Rocky being this throw back of a throw back fighter and all of you people who love Rocky you don,t love him any more than I do I am a realest he was to light in the pants to hurt any of these guys and the right hand he hit Walcot with these guys would have ate it and never blinked and the fight would have ended shortly after
