since the women's game is so bland, i hope safina does get to the final coz of all the effort and hardwork she has put in but i would want kuznetsova to win the grand slam or ivanovic.

Her attitude is annoying.  If she wins good for her because she's worked hard this tournament if she loses oh well. She has to earn it not just get it handed to her. I'd rather a Russian win then a Serb. I think both Ana and Jelena are annoying...especially Jelena.

Does Safina deserve a grand slam?  You have to earn it before you deserve it, but she's getting closer.  The mental weakness that used to be her nemesis, like losing her temper and not being able to close out big matches, seems to have disappeared these last couple tournaments.  And now she has to be flying high with confidence after yet another amazing comeback against Dementieva.  I don't know if she'll win, but she definitely is one to be reckoned with this year.

No she doesn't deserve a Slam. I like her but I can't think of a good reason why she "deserves" a Slam. Someone like Dementieva would "deserve" a slam for being at the top of the game forever but not having enough talent to break through the majors. Safina has the talent, power and physique that it takes to win ... but she doesn't have the heart or work ethic necesary to go with it. She better win the RG this year ... it's the best chance she's likely to ever come accross.

safina has potential. but unfortunately her attitude is the worst in the game at the moment. she throws her racquet at the slightest of things and is just overall a horrible sport. i actually rooted for sharapova (who i am definitely NOT a fan of) in the last match because safina was being such a poor sport. no one likes to see people throwing racquets and acting like brats. safina has a lot of growing up to do.

reading through these i have to wonder if people have been watching the same roland garros as i have. because how could they not notice how horrible she's acting towards her opponents? so my answer to your question is no, i do not believe she deserves a grand slam until she makes a major attitude adjustment. god help the women's game without justine henin around.

As long as a Russian wins I don't really care if it's Safina or Kuznetsova but I can't stand to have the Serbs start ranting about how they are taking over tennis with their 2 female players in the top 20 of the WTA and Djokovic. Safina played well against Sharapova and despite a lot of help from the d**n disgusting Roland Garros crowd deserved that win. Her next match was just as deserved after being down a set against Dementieva and then taking the 2nd in a tie breaker and blowing her out in the 3rd. I hope she wins the Final that way if she gets past Kuz but without loosing the first set. Actually 6-0, 6-0 would be better.

Safina has been struggling for such a long time.  She has finally gotten over her bad temper and has improved tremendously.  I am so very happy for her.  I hope that with her two gutsy win she will make it to the finals.  I have a feeling if she beat Kutznetsova she will win the entire thing.  She is such a hard worker and since she has gotten match tough I think she is ready for the top 10.
