  1. I'm not a neo con fan of Harper.  However, I believe the apology was sincere and long overdue.

    For the answerer piercedb,  it would be interesting to know how much exposure you've had to First Nation people, their history and culture.  Your answer is not appropriate.

Well it was a long time coming.  I think if anything it opened the doors to educate people about residential schools.  So many Canadians have no idea that even existed and the atrocities that went with it.  Certainly it is also important to note that just because the schools are closed now doesn't mean that it is still not seriously affecting first nations people today.  More education needs to be done on the inter generational effects of residential schools.

    I wonder if the government is going to ever talk about the reason why the Indian act was put into effect.  Or how about the 60's scoop where children were taken out of the homes and put into foster care.  

    Was it heartfelt?  I don't know.  Some of the elders I have talked too appreciated the apology and well others said it was too late.  

    Like i mentioned before it opened the door for people who are interested to learn more about Canada's history.
