What do you think about The Falklands?

I think they look like part of the Western Isles of Scotland that's decided to go for a long swim. In politics their the islands that getting back saved Thatcher's government in 1982, for which she rewarded the military by giving them the biggest pay rise they've ever seen.

And it's a small bit of the world that the locals have made more British than Britain.

There's nothing wrong with a place that puts a sheep on the flag! The Welsh must love it.... :)

And in response to the smart git lower down (guess where you got the thumbs down from...) there's nothing wrong with the Type 42 now that it's got the right systems combat sea skimming missiles and that little glitch with the radar system interfering with Satcom has long been solved. They also float when most of the forward compartments have been flooded (HMS Nottingham, 2002) which considering how hard we hit that rock is surprising.

It has always been, and will always be, the case that lessons not even thought of in peace are found out the hard way in war.

Last remanants of a pathetic countrys vain attempts to relive its  past. when it slaughtered the world in an attept to bring civilisation. The reason why most of the world and europe still hates you. A country that still has the gaul to flog the germans any chance they can get over world war 2, forgetting the millions killed by their own regime see 1845-1847, 2 million dead another 2 million forced to emigrate, and when its brought up their only response is "that was in the past, move on". Actually, I'm a long time member of  Falklands Conservation. There's a lot more there than just rough grassy hills ;-)

My most vivid thought of the place though is a bit more mundane; Those people are so d**n isolated, one guy had toothache. And he had to wait Six Months till the supply boat came back, bringing the only Dentist they ever get to see!

Just think about that for a minute. Toothache. Live with it. *Six Bloody Months!*
