What do you think of a bird harness for my grey? he is very tame, i can pet his wings, under his wings his back, anywhere really. he let me put blankets over him and around him and i can hold him like a baby.

Just want some opinions and info from people with experience with a bird harness.

  1. I think the bird will tell you what he thinks when you try putting one on him. None of my birds ever liked them.

  2. Your bird sounds like a good candidate.

I am currently working with my quaker on training it to use a harness.  It takes time for them to get used to.  To make things easier, I feed him treats and take him outside imediantally.

At 1st he would have nothing to do with the harness, but he is "nicer" to it now.  Good Luck

  3. They're a good idea if you like taking your bird out in public.  Only problem is is unless you start putting them on the bird when they are babies you may have an issue getting them used to them.

  4. I have had my badly spoiled grey for around 20 years and I cannot envision a way of getting one of those  on him and not losing at least a finger.

  5. I would contact Hartman Aviaries he makes them to fit it is called a Aviator Harness and Leash.  He also offers a DVD step by step instruction o the proper way to train your bird to wear a harness.  His website is HartmanAviary@aol.com  His name is Mr. Hartman.  His address is 9000 Cheshire Rd., Sunbury, Ohio 43074.

  6. i think a bird harness is a great idea. i have some that i put on a few of my pigeons. they all like them.  and it keeps them safe.

your bird will let you know if he likes it or not. it may take a few tries to get him used to it, but im sure he will accept it.  most birds do.
