Question:

What do you think about a Valentine's Day wedding?

OK, so my fiance and I were planning on getting married in December. But some problems came up with my financial aid (I'm still in college and I can't really afford to pay full tuition and we don't want to take out loans) so we have to change our wedding date. I want to reschedule as soon as possible and I was wondering what you all think about a Valentine's Day wedding? Is it too cheesy? Or should I even bother since its a very important holiday for couples?

Give me your advice no matter how harsh/nice it may be.

Thanks & I'll return the favor!

  1. I think it's romantic (:

  2. Not very original.  Every other person gets married Valentine's Day.

My husbands birthday is the 8th and mine is the 20th of February.  We didnt want to get married in the winter so we picked May 28.

The only thing we didn't think of was that it was Memorial Day weekend that year. But it turned out great.  Everyone we invited came and the weather was beautiful.

Pick a day that has meaning and is special to both of you !

  3. Bad idea, if cost is an issue.  You are going to pay way too much for flowers for sure, and you will be limited on food choices (lots of restaurants have Valentines events and won't be able to cater).

  4. Its the same as any other day of the year. And it will make it easier on your wallet in the long run. Our anniversary is the end of Feb and she doesn't expect nor want to waste money on valentines day so we can have more fun on our annviersary. Its about the event of marriage not the day you pick that is important. Every day has something good and bad about it, somewhere.

  5. Only thing that concerns me are the jacked up price of flowers and chocolates (if you have chocolate at your wedding or as a favor) that happen at that time of year.  Wait til' end of February and things might be less costly.

Otherwise, I think it is sweet.  If I were invited to a wedding on Valentine's Day the only thing I would want is to be able to bring a date  (in my case, my Fiance).

  6. I think that its very romantic and its going to be Valentiens and a wedding anniversary and that's romantic!

  7. I don't think it's cheesy, but I can tell you it's usually more expensive.  Flowers are VERY expensive at this time and most venues are too.  Here's my suggestion, contact a few venues and ask if they have any dates they will discount.  Fridays and Sundays are usually discounted and if it's in the off-season, they might discount it too.  Also, if you contact them like 4 or 5 months before, they might be willing to discount to get your business.

How about a Sunday brunch?  They're unique and cheaper (plus people will drink less, so that'll make it less too!) or how about a cocktail party reception instead of a sit down dinner?  As long as there are a lot, people will get filled up (just be sure you put that on the invite).

Good luck and congrats!  no harsh advice, just keep in mind price.  I really thing V-day is VERY VERY expensive (and you may find already booked up at the places you're thinking of).

  8. I had a teacher who got married on Valentines Day, he said he never forgot his anniversary.  The flowers will be more expensive.  The location maybe more expensive.  I don't think its cheesy.  Your close friends and family will be their regardless, but you are right.  Its an important day for other couples.  And your single friends and family who already dread V-Day may feel worse trying to bask in your happiness.

Also, I know you don't want to think about this, but you ever break up, V-Day will be doubly hard and harder to celebrate with your new love.

  9. i think it's tacky; why would you want to share you're one special day with a million other couples??

  10. I think the combination of holiday/special events is annoying.  For example, Valentines day and your anniversary would be combined into one day.  I feel like that would ruin the importance of it somehow.  Just like when people propose on the girls birthday, and use the ring as a present.   Getting out of a gift.  lol.

  11. thats very romantic

  12. I honestly don't like valentine's Day weddings!

    Its Lame!

  13. I think it is romantic but also I hear everything like flowers will be more expensive...that is just what I hear. But other than that I would think it would be special.

  14. I think Valentine's Day weddings are cheesy.  I like Valentine's Day and I love the emphasize on love and happiness that day.  But, I just think having your wedding on that day makes it way too over the top, cheesy and a bit cliche. I also think it's presumptuous, like you are sooo in love you need are entitled to a Valentine's Day wedding.  Where's my barf bucket?  I think it's better to pick a date that isn't shared with a major holiday.

Plus, if you're having money issues; don't have a wedding on Valentine's Day.   They jack up the price on EVERYTHING.   So, you are better off getting married in March or waiting to the following December.

  15. A Valentine's Day wedding does seem a teensy-weensy bit cheesy BUT it is actually a REALLY popular time to get married!!!  I'm assuming that you are thinking about a Valentine's Day wedding because it sounds cool to you...in which case, go for it!  The "cheese" factor is pretty small, and really once people are at the wedding they will not be thinking about the date at all unless you want them to.  It's your choice how much to play up on the V-Day theme (using red and white, for example, or not having anything related to the holiday).  All in all I think that you should always go with your heart .. and if you like the idea of Valentine's Day, that's for a reason, so do it!  I wish you the best romantic wedding!

  16. lameee

  17. I like it, sounds cute, but I think it may be a problem for some guests having them choose between and intimate date with their significant one or your wedding. Just have it right after that way its still Feb, but you also get the Vday stuff on sale!
