No.. why would you put a new judge on American Idol.. Example: Paula and Kara both say "Yes", Simon and Randy both say "No"... Eh, problem, 2v2 - yes or no?

American Idol has enough views, sometimes they have an extra judge just as a guest, I feel it doesnt seem the same with an extra judge, we will just have to see...

I don't think it's a good idea because we're already used to only having three. Plus it creates a greater chance for ties. When you have three judges there can't be ties.

Guess we'll have to wait and see how much she contributes to the show.  I was satisfied with the 3 judges.  The show is a huge success.  Wonder what the point of adding a 4th is?

honestly, I didn't want them to add a fourth judge, becaues the show was already good with the three, Simon,Randy + Paula. It's is already the 8th season they are only having two more seasons so I think it's to late to have a newjudge, I don't think it is just to keep Paula company.

I think it will be good for Paula to have company, but other than that, I don't see the point.  I read on yahoo that they were adding a 4th judge not only for Paula to have company, but cuz that is what they origionally intended for the show to be like.  I can't help wondering if the 4th judge will affect how hard it already is for people to get past them during auditions and Hollywood Week on the show.

After I read about it, I was pretty surprised. I'm a huge American Idol fan and I guess American Idol was really worried about their slumping ratings so I guess they had to put a "twist" on it this year to get more people to watch it. Like when Season 7 started, the American Idol producers and Ryan Seacrest kept saying, "This is the most talented group ever"...They kept saying this because Season 6 lost a lot of viewers so they had to find a way to get those viewers back. And about the tie issue, Paula said that if 2 judges say "yes" and 2 judges say "no", Simon will probably have the last say. I'm not really a big fan of this move of adding a 4th judge, but I guess it'll be interesting to see what happens!

It is true. Kara DioGuardi will be the fourth judge on American Idol this season. Here is some info I found on google.

Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi, will provide a little "girl power" to the judging panel according to a Fox executive.

Adding a fourth judge is no a novel idea according to the show's executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz.

"We had originally intended for American Idol to have four judges," she said.

DioGuardio has written songs recorded by Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Pink.

What do you think about adding a fourth judge to the mix? Will the chemistry be negatively affected. Will this give Paula less of an opportunity to make a fool of herself? We'll find out when the show debuts on Fox in January.

I love it gives balance to the committee. ( Looks better for poor Simon for playing the solo devil in d pack ).

Personally think its great alot funnier,,,, gives fresh circulation to their  judging circle.  They already done it in earlier show where they search for new unfortunate inventors, called the American Inventors with George Foreman as its 4th judge.
