  1. If your female, Do not do it. Traveling to any foreign country (with Japan the exception) can be dangerous for a girl by herself. (though I did spend a while by myself in Thailand with no events) If your a bloke, yeah you probably could. That said, China is a pretty rough and ready place. If you do decide to travel alone ALWAYS keep in contact with a friend or parents everyday so they know your ok. Set out an itinerary and let someone know so if something does happen they know what area your in.

Being an American doesn't mean anything. You would have the same problem if your New Zealand, Canadian or English.

I wouldn't do it. Go with a friend or look on the net for someone who is traveling to China and would like someone to go with for safety reasons but also it helps enjoy a place more if you have someone there with you. They are normally just looking for someone to be there for them and don't want to go by themselves. Do check it out.

    Have a fun trip.

  2. They will cut you up and cook you and hang you on the streets to sell your parts. Seriously what kind of question is this. Honestly I feel safer on the streets of China than in US. US robbers have guns, Chinese robbers have knives. So much for right to bear arms. If you really concern, Hong Kong is you safest bet. It is more highly developed and safer in China.

  3. i think it's better for u to travel with someone. if u talking bout alone, i guess u probably wanna avoid having your usual friends or family members around. try knowing friends or companion from china. let him/ her bring u round. it's better to have a local who knows the streets and how things go.

  4. no your screwed badly when i went by myself they beat me up then i had to get face Reconstruction

  5. China is perfectly safe for travelling.  I lived there for five years and the only thing I ever feared was getting my pocket picked.  I never felt afraid of walking around my city at 11pm, 2am, or even 4am, and I'm a female.  I did have a male friend who was almost robbed in Shanghai, but that was because he made the mistake of taking a black market taxi during a major holiday.  Don't take black market taxis they aren't safe for locals nor foreigners and they will likely cheat you on the fare.  Only take metered taxis.  It is possible to negotiate a price with them and they are licensed by the government so you can at least report them if they are shady.  I have a lot of friends who have travelled all over the world and we all agree that China is very safe for travelling, even by yourself.  It is a good idea, as a precautionary measure anytime you visit another country, to send an itinerary to your embassy and for a loved one or friend to have a copy.  Most hostels offer internet and PC cafes are plentiful.  Keep in contact with people at home to let them know your next step on your trip.  That way if something unusal happens they will know what your plans were.

  6. I think you'll be cheated like WHOAH. Chinese sales people are often hagglers and you'll be paying for things that could be so much cheaper.

You should probably have a tour guide or translator.

  7. I've traveled there twice on my own with no problems.  It is very safe. You will be fine.
