Question:

What do you think about an all dessert bridal shower?

Hi,

Another bridesmaid and I are hosting the bridal shower for our friend. We were throwing around ideas for the shower in Septmeber.

The shower will be at 2:00 in someone's home with about 40 people. We are thinking of an all dessert shower also serving coffee...tea...punch...soda etc...since it will be after lunch and before dinner. And frankly who doesn't LOVE dessert. LOL

Both of us recently had babies (in April) so we are needing to keep on a tighter budget. We thought this would be a fun and less expensive.

The other option would be to do a "potluck" shower where the guests bring something...but I do not feel comfortable doing that. Although if we did that I might ask each person to include the recipe card for their dish...so they can be given to the bride.

Let me know your thoughts mainly on the all dessert idea. I also would like some creative input on a name that we can give it, so that our guests know what to expect...."Cake and cookie shower".

Thanks

  1. Sounds like a good idea. Have some healthy versions like fruit salad and in your invitation state that it is dessert only. That way no one expects main dishes. I don't think it is good to have potluck. People are already spending money and time for the shower. They might think it is rude for you to ask them to bring food too.

    Have fun

  2. It sounds perfect! Maybe you could do a take-off on "It's raining men" and call it "It's raining cake!" or something like that. I wouldn't do potluck... you never know what you're going to get and sometimes those turn into big hassles. Just plan it the way you want and go for it! :-)

  3. I think this sounds great. People usually only go to showers for the desserts anyway, haha (at least, I always do). I think all desserts would be perfect for a bridal shower. You can have cake, cookies, jell-o mixed with fruit (for those weight-conscious guests) and all kinds of other stuff. It would be cheaper and a lot more fun = ]

The recipe card thing is also a really good idea. Maybe you could encourage guests to bring a recipe card of their favorite dessert without having them bring the actual dish (unless they want to bring it, of course).

  4. Love the idea of a dessert shower. The fruit plate, and perhaps a low-fat option, are great for those who try to stay away from sugar. Otherwise, you should go as crazy with the desserts as you want!

  5. Yum!  Sounds like a tasty (and fun!) option for a shower.  One recommendation that I would make is to have some type of a fruit salad available for those who either avoid sweets for the calories or who may have medical conditions (i.e. diabetes) and may not be able to partake.

Good luck with your 'sweet shower'.

  6. How about having some finger Foods to serve alone with the desserts ?

I personal don't like the ideal of all sweets but it is a great ideal! Some people are not all desserts eaters.

  7. Since the time you have planned is not at a meal hour, your idea is perfect! You can call it a dessert shower but really, your guests don't need to know what you're serving. Naming the shower might be misinterpreted as being the type of gifts (theme) for the shower.

  8. I have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know, BUT, often after I eat sweets, I need something salty, or I feel sick-(I know other people like that too).  So I would make sure to include some salty stuff as well, like cheese and crackers.  Cheese cubes are pretty cheap, as are Ritz crackers, and you could get some chips and dip-(also pretty inexpensive), or make a cream cheese spread for the crackers.  Just try to include a couple small salty snacks, maybe some nuts or something, or some crackers, to make sure everyone has something to choose from, and something a little salty in case they eat too much sugar.  Other than that, have fun at your dessert party!  Sounds delicious!

  9. there's nothing wrong with that.  make sure to include some fat free, sugar free options.  You can use sugar free pudding, fat free whipped cream, nuts, and some fruit to make individual parfaits for one idea.  Oh, and chocolate martinis and irish coffee lol.

Alot of ladies go on diets before the big day so just have some options for them.
