How do you feel about testing animals to help cure diseases and create medicines? How about using animals to make sure food, drinks, and over-the-countered drugs are safe? Or to make sure cosmetics are safe? What are some good things that could come from animal testings? What are some of the dangers?

i'm doing a debate against animal testing, and i just wanted to use people's opinion in my speech...so help?

it can be just ur OPINION!!

  1. i am completely against using animal testing for testing cosmetics and foods and drinks. in terms of helping cure diseases and testing over the counter drugs, im unsure. i love animals and do not want them to be subject to the pain of animal testing. i also want to be a doctor, and obviously support trying to find cures for diseases. i don't know what should be done about this, since there are good/bad things for both sides.

  2. i dont think animal testing is right unless its used for life saving cures...otherwise its not needed

  3. i think its horrible...also, i did a big debate and report at school for it...and i got a good grade too!

  4. i am totally against testing for cosmetics or anything else humans do not need to survive. millions of animals suffer (go on the peta website and watch some videos on animal testing) for the sake of cosmetics, when there are brands that don't test on animals at all. i think a lot of people just hear 'animal testing' but dont think about what it actually means. its not like they put lipstick on them, see that its fine, and then let them go.  they test the harsh ingredients on their skins, and a lot of the time they are completely unnessecary - just one example is that the strong ingredients of shampoo are put into rabbits eyes and can be left there for hours til they examine the effects on the eye. for one thing, rabbits do not have tear ducts and therefore cant blink some of it out like humans can, and secondly, nobody needs to put shampoo in their eyes anyway its just ridiculous.  would people rather this happen than simply buy from another brand that doesnt do ANY of this? not all the brands against animal testing are expensive, i get my shampoo from the co-op which is one of the cheapest and its fine for my hair.  ultimately, it is easier for people to ignore these facts and just buy whichever shampoo they want - i can understand this as ignorance is bliss, but i think the cons to testing on animals are too much too ignore.

you could argue that testing for cures is a different matter. in my opinion, i dont think we should blame people for doing anything to actually survive. if animals needed to suffer in order to help cure humans of a serious and fatal illness i do think this is sad but i believe it is acceptable because when it comes to living or dying, you just need to do some things. you could say that only certain levels of illness deserve animal testing. because people can deal with something like a common cold, i wouldnt want an animal to be tested on to cure me of a cold i know im not going to get seriously ill from. however you could argue that ANY sorts of health reasons deserve animal testing.

despite this, im sure some people think that animal testing is completely wrong and that there is no reason for any being to suffer for the sake of another.

a good point against animal testing i think is how animals are not the same as humans which can cause researchers to game the wrong results - such as the example of rabbits not having tear ducts like humans. if you give a horse paracetamol it will go crazy, but obviously for us it gives us little affect. you should look into this and find some facts about it.

even though i believe testing is ok for curing a serious illness, i do think the conditions need to be a lot better, and people need to at least appreciate and know what animals go through for the sake of us. there is evidence that animals have not only been used for testing but are also cruelly treated and not cared for. i think they should at least give them more space and things like that.

good luck with the debate, hope i've helped :)

  5. If it cures a human disease its cool, but I think using animals to test cosmetics or other stuff is cruel.

  6. There are two main topics of argument. The effectiveness of animal testing and the ethics of animal testing.

There are many arguments for and against the effectiveness of animal testing. In many cases the tests seem futile and little connection can be made between the tests and the solution the scientists are looking for. In other cases certain animals have been found to have similar reactions as humans and therefore testing on them are effective. In either case, the animals suffer terribly and are destroyed when no longer useful.

One thing for sure, it is truly evil to use animal testing for cosmetics. Even the use of animal testing to find medical cures is completely selfish.

Without debate, animal testing for things that are not life threatening or highly debilitating should be illegal. Personally, I think all animal testing should be illegal.

  7. It is cruel and they should find a chemical way or something to test

  8. I think it's bad but better than human testing.

  9. I don't think testing animals will help, humans are way smarter then animals, if we can't come up with a cure neither can they.  Actually if some animals have to die to help us cure diseases then so be it, human life is so much more important than animal life, it's not even worth discussing.
